Alright so this is my first time posting so i am just going to go for it. I have a friend who has just discovered DXM in the form of robotussin gel cap pills but she had the generic hyvee brand (which were also in gel cap form) and was a ratio of 1:20 i would like to know what this means. Also does anyone have any opinions as to weather the actual robotussin pills are maybe a little safer to take instead of the generic my thinking was that the actual robotussins are safer because they contain less filler but i cant find the ratio of DXM to filler on the bottle of the actual robotussin gel caps they just say 15mg of DXM so im not sure if my assumtion of this is correct. I have read some on erowid about this but they arent very specific about the different kinds of "robo pills". im not very experienced in dxm though i have taken robotussin gel caps a few times. if any of this sounds wrong i would really appriciate the new information, opinions, or feedback. :)

Not a big DXM whiz, but as far as I know, the only thing you really need to worry about is making sure that DXM (dextromethorphan HBr) is the only active ingredient in the stuff. Not familiar with the issue of the ratio of drug:filler, though; maybe you should wait till someone else can shed a little light on that before proceeding.

Pretty much what OnlyAshRemains said, as long as it's the ONLY active ingredient you should be ok. The binders/fillers will be inactive.

Without know the specific brand/link to info on that specific ones, I would have a guess that the "1:20" reference would be the amount of DXM per ml/mg of solution.

Yes i believe it refers to the ml/mg of the solution. Ill have to have her get the bottle for me to see if it is the only active ingredient i know it is on the robotussin gel caps but im not so sure about this other brand. If this other brand does have other active ingredients besides the dxm would they cause long term effects taken in high doses? Im talking like 20-30 pills at a time not just a couple at a time

"Other" ingridients in DXM cause immediate effects which are concerning... Undoubtedly these ingridients will cause long-term damage as well.

acetaminophen causes liver and stomach damage, and possibly death, in doses above 4 grams in a single day.

guafinsen causes nauseau and vomiting; it's medically classified as an emetic in high doses.

chlorpheniramine (CPM) causes kidney, stomach, and eye damage in very small doses. It can cause seizures and death in large doses.

Inactive "filler" are a pretty small concern. Most of the filler in DXM pills/syrups are designed to stabilize the solution (DXM is insoluble in water naturally) or to add flavor and texture to mask the DXM taste. These fillers will, at worst, cause vomiting, diarrhea, or an allergic reaction.

Here is the table from erowid.org

Oral DXM Dosages:
Threshold unknown
Light 100 - 200 mg
Common 200 - 400 mg
Strong 300 - 600 mg
Heavy 600 - 1500 mg
Risk of Death 2,500 - 20,000 mg

The pills are usually 10-30mg. My first time I started off with 100mg just to test the waters. As was stated earlier, be POSITIVE that dextromethorphan hbr is the only active ingredient. I usually went with the gel caps, as drinking all the nasty syrup can be rough on the stomach - imaging eating over a half pound of sugar, its pretty much the same thing.

ya i found the kind she was using and it contained a couple of active ingredients so i told her about making sure that the dxm was the only active ingredient because she had told me that she threw up pretty badly after she did that so i am assuming that was from those. thanks for the information because it was kind of hard to advise her on a subject i didn't know too much about

I abused DXM for about a year straight when I was younger. The Gel-caps are def. the way to go, it doesn't matter if it's brand or generic unless some extremely rare chance that she is allergic to one of the inactive ingredients. They should be 15mg per cap, with DXM as the only ingredient. In my experience a good starting dose would be one bottle (20 caps=300mg). After testing the waters a few times it is relatively safe to experiment up to the three bottle range (60 caps=900mg). I would only suggest a very experienced user to explore the four to five bottle range (1200-1500mg), with the knowledge that overdose, seizures, coma, and death are beginning to become possible in these higher ranges.

300 mg will get you feeling good. 720 mg will get you blasted for a first time. and 1000 mg and over will have you in a ketamine like state

It's more complicated, as DXM doseage is dependent on bodyweight - the same dose for a 50kg vs 100kg person will be wildly different in the level or plateau reached.

Search the web for doseage calculators like this one DXM doseage calculator and do the math accordingly. But finish reading the below first!

There's also a percentage of the population that has an inefficient cytochrome enzyme which effectively means much longer/stronger trips on DXM compared to most people, you really want to dose low the first time to make sure you're not one of these people:

Start out with a small dose. Once you've checked then go for a more typical dose.

I personally recommend reading the whole FAQ first.
