DXM & antidepressants

hey. i'm on cipralex 10mg (10mg/day). i'm currently in the midst of a dxm binge (2 days). i also did gravol 2 days ago and it gave me symptoms similar to those of serotonin syndrome (muscle spasms, shivering, etc). after that i did dxm again and i was fine. well, the only side effects i had were sweating, diarrhea, and highly increased heart rate. the dxm dose i've been taking is a 120mL bottle of extra strength. i'm about 100 pounds maybe 110. i wanna know how great the risk is of taking the same dosage of dxm again, especially and comically, since the gravol symptoms were exactly those of serotonin syndrome.

I would not dose again for at least 2 weeks.

The risk is pretty high for extremely negative side effects, especially considering those that you have already experienced. Drinking an entire bottle of cold medicine, which is what you're doing, in order to access the DXM is unfortunately not as safe as it is easy. Those medicines were meant to be taken in small doses (usually 10-15 mL), not in gulps, and most contain other ingredients that your body does not want. Doing a DXM extraction (LINK: http://www.dextroverse.org/extractions.html) is SIMPLE, QUICK, and ensures that you are not ingesting loads of other crap with your chosen chem.

Also, make absolutely certain, whether you choose to run an extraction in the future or not, that the syrup that you buy contains ONLY one active ingredient -- DXM. Those syrups with other active ingredients such as acetaminophen are especially dangerous as some of these ingredients can be FATAL in high doses (like those incurred when consuming an entire bottle).

Thanks man, good advice. My gf actually posted that, not I - but we are both indeed thankful for the info! And true, I talked to a couple others and taking DM with that extra crap (pseudoepedrine, guafinesine) was very highly un-recommended. Pure DM next time around.

I would definitely recommend either stop taking the cipralex or cease DXM useage, cipralex is an SSRI and can interfere badly with excessive DXM use. I have only experienced this interaction once (unknowingly with Zoloft) and that was a bad enough experience to make me research serotonin syndrome, which DXM plus SSRI mixture can cause. Luckily for me I recovered quickly and tapered myself off of Zoloft before dexxing again (had only been on zoloft for a month).
