DXM and Tramadol

hi guys,ive posted this at PD too but since tramadol belongs to this forum i'll try here too...MODs,im sorry if thus doesnt belong here.

Recently i discovered that taking a whole bottle of codeine cough med,bout 200mg codeine in total (ive really low tolerance),and taking pure DXM powder after the peak really enhances the trip.

Ive some tramadol on hand and was wondering if taking DXM with it is not safe or will it also enhances the trip?

Another q i have is does Tramadol also have the 'nodding' kick like codeine? Thanks guys

That's interesting that you find codeine/DXM to be a good combo, seeing as I would think that metabolic interactions would cause you to feel the codeine much less. It's not a dangerous combo but it strikes me as being counterproductive.

Actually, it could be potentially dangerous to combine tramadol and DXM. This is because the enzyme CYP2D6 metabolizes both DXM and tramadol -- so both drugs will compete for the enzyme, and if there isn't enough, the levels of one or both drugs could be too high in your bloodstream. Basically, because of their metabolic pathways, DXM and tramadol potentiate each other, but in a very possibly dangerous manner.

Furthermore, both DXM and tramadol increase serotonin levels, so there is a potential for serotonin syndrome as well (not fun, and can cause significant brain damage).

If you choose to combine these drugs, I would make sure to stick to very low doses of both to minimize the risk of OD.

For me, yes, tramadol does cause the 'nod' like other opiates.

Interesting...

I was actually surprised when I got shovel faced from taking Tramadol. I didn't know before-hand that it increases seratonin levels......yet at the time (after 4 pills) it felt that I was actually taking ecstacy without the euphoria.

I am somewhat dissapointed in myself that I did not research this.

Wonder if I have brain damage.
