MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -
A driver recorded his stop during a DUI checkpoint in Rutherford County and uploaded the video to YouTube. By Saturday morning, less than 24 hours after it was posted, it had more than 1.3 million views and 22,000 likes.

The driver, Chris Kalbaugh, wrote on his YouTube page that the DUI checkpoint happened in Murfreesboro on July 4, 2013 and the deputy told him "it is okay to take away my freedom."

He would have already been home smoking a bowl if he had just wound down his window and answered a couple of questions. If you want to make a big deal of it you red flag yourself as a trouble maker. It is a "War on drugs" and you have to fight smart. Combat has come a long way since armies engaged each other over open ground and ran at each other. Save you constitutional right battles for when you really need it otherwise you give them enough intelligence to change the rules of engagement.

Very true but I commend him for keeping it in the open field. We can't just let them do this. Examples like this need to be made. Cops need to know that people are watching them fuck up.

I've had dogs do this while smelling a car I was in and they did not search the car. It doesn't mean the dog got a hit, at least from my experience. Regardless, the pigs are still pigs.

You are as free as they tell you you are. Anyone out of the states looking to hire a private chef? I don't take up much space, and I don't eat that much....:\

I probably should post this, to show one of the risks of not rolling down your window:

That's terrible. The cop should be sentenced to life in prison, and any others that aided in the cover up should be arrested for life as well.

Where do I send my resume?

The police here have to put up with very shitty life threatening situations. Basically they wouldn't be so shitty and life threatening if they didn't have such a long history of trampling peoples rights. It is a real messy can of worms.

I'm surprised when they realised they were being filmed they didn't confiscate the phone/recording device and simply delete the video.

Got this off the youtube comments:

Deputy Sheriff AJ Ross here. As you know by now, I'm the Deputy in the video, and I'll tell you one thing, and you listen real hard. OK? The driver, Chris Kolbaugh, did not "win". Got that? He is nothing but a criminal. His Libertarian ass will be in spurs for his mischief. Now by the authority vested in me by the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office, I'm hereby ordering you people to cease and desist making negative comments about me.

Right...

It's funny, I've read threads on here about "knowing your rights" and asking "Am I being detained" and all that shit....and I'm always one of the people who says...."Yeah, that's nice but try it in real life and see how well it goes over!"

And this video pretty much proves it.....The cops don't play that "I know my rights" shit! and in most places the judge who it comes before could give a fuck about the police violating your rights....It's disturbing....Our freedom is really just disappearing before our eyes and all anyone can say is..."If you're not doing anything wrong why won't you just show your ID and answer questions and allow yourself to be searched?"

What the fuck ever happened to the concept of "privacy"? Nobody seems to care anymore! And if you read the comments after any online new story, it's unbelievable the way most people seem to think...."That man's a criminal and criminals belong in prison!"

Even if you have a kilo of cocaine under the seat, you shouldn't have to submit to a search just because the police don't like the way you look...I guess most people feel like the ends justify the means...They're gonna go too far with this shit soon though....Once they start screwing with the people driving home from church, that's when we'll finally see a back-lash against this type of thing!

The problem is....the cops are actually REALLY good at profiling people! They usually don't pull this shit with people who don't seem like they'd have anything on them, and that's why they can get away with it!

Right...

I'm friends with the guy doing the media on all of this. I spoke with him last night over dinner. Chris is saying absolutely nothing until he speaks with counsel. I would be surprised that the sheriff's deputy made any comments because he lost his job in the past for getting convicted of driving without insurance. The deputy also had a complaint filed against him 6 weeks prior by a separate MT student who had a similar incident of harassment and illegal search.

btw, thank you numbers for choosing the WKRN article, the WSMV article is bullshit, channel 4 is on some bullshit. WKRN actually conducted a 2 year investigation resulting in a 35 minute long 'policing for profit' special. WKRN is also supportive of us and our interest to change medical marijuana laws in this state.

They're trying to organize a meeting with the sheriff to discuss this because it has seriously caused a lot of people to simultaneously air their grievances with the local law enforcement agencies and shit is just going to get a lot worse until this is dealt with. It just so happens now that this video has educated a lot of local people that they are not alone in their anger and frustration.

Make sure that none of you contact the murfreesboro police department or the metro nashville police department, neither of those agencies were responsible for this travesty.

Down the line, if it is relevant to what we do at bluelight, I will share updates from this as well as later on, hopefully be able to attend the court proceedings.

Right here in our city logic. ha ha Im not sure how I feel on this one though honestly. Had he rolled down his window the officer prob would have just let him pass. But when you act or pretend like you have something to hide they tend to get suspicious. Now the search and all that thats outta line.
