Yeah, I already know I am going to get flamed to all hell for this, but I think it could be a great discussion if people can be mature about it:\.

Anyway, what substances would you like to have made illegal? Please no pointles lists, give some sort of reasoning behind each of your decisions. This can be based on apparent toxicity, deaths, interactions, just plain miserable effects or any reason you see fit.

I'll start
Mephedrone> Highly addictive, widespread reports of very troubling physical symptoms, its easy availability and how little research people do before trying it.

5-meo-amt> Low doses lead to overdose, especially when it is confused with its far better cousin AMT. Deaths have occoured. Also, it has been laid on blotter and sold as lsd (personal experience on this one.

Bromo-dragonfly> potent vasoconstrictor, low dose allows it to be laid on blotter and sold as lsd as well, deaths have occoured at regular doses, not to mention the confusion brought about by variences of potency between isomers.

Who has a few to add???

Deffo agree on the mephedrone front.

Not that I want it illegalised but if something as simple as cannabis is illegal then WHY THE FUCK is that fickle and possibly really quite dangeorus chem meph still legal?!?

Alcohol. Too many lives have been destroyed by this drug. Recently, I have watched my grandfather (a lifetime alcoholic, now retired) decline under it's liquid spell. I myself became heavily addicted to it for periods of time, to the point where I was once hospitalized to undergo detoxification. I cannot believe it's a legal drug that anyone can consume; it's simply absurd.

I must say, though - on the other hand - that marijuana should be legalized everywhere. If nicotine, alcohol, mephedrone, etc are legal, surely a drug as harmless and enlightening as marijuana should be legalized. But that's an endless debate...

I think all drugs should be legal and most, if not all of them controlled.

I think we should be able to buy things like mephedrone, meth, heroin and cocaine but in a controlled manner. This would include things like age limits, quantity limits, maybe buying at certain qualified facilities where they would have someone trained/certified to go over the substance with you and have you sign forms stating that you understand the risks associated with the use of the substance. Kind of like picking up a Rx at the pharmacy. This way when someone on the tail end of a meth binge comes and and he's obviously cracked out they can refuse him service.

Exactly. People should be able to do what they want. Plus prohibition does nothing to benifit. Cut-drugs, organised crime, violence, dodgy legal drugs devised to get round laws and not to forget the producer countries that remain war torn because of our addiction would all be eradicated.. If legalisation was done slowly and responsibly I doubt it would cause many more people to take drugs, particularly if the money that was saved from drug enforcement was put into education and counciling for addicts. Also, the any increase in drug use would be ofset how much safer it and society would become!

Look at portugal. They decriminalized the use of marijuana, cocaine, heroin, meth ect. The use of drugs among teenagers from 2001(when drugs were decriminalized) to 2006 fell from 14% to 10%. New HIV infection rates fell 17%. And people seeking treatment for drug use increased. As a society I think its about time we put aside the ignorance and legalize drugs.

Here are some real-time stats

None, all drugs should be regulated. I'm all about HR but makig pot and shrooms legal but not heroin and PCP wouldn't do much, it's either all or nothing. If you don't beleive that then go try and sail a boat with half a hull.

The only restriction that should be placed on drugs is an age limit, so kids can't buy them.

But apart from that, they should be legal and available to everybody who chooses to use them.

Im all for legalization. I think drugs should be legalized, or decriminalized for possession and use at least. They should be controlled as well. This would cut down on crime, drug impurities, gangs and plenty of other bad things that are associated with the illegal drug trade. i think the last few posters have gotten it pretty spot on. There have been many examples of decreased deaths, and abuse by teens, and an increase in treatment once drugs are decriminalized.

The problem is really getting public opinion to sway in our favor. the majority of people are not open to drug legalization because it has just been so stigmatized throughout generations of politics and family values and all that. its going to be difficult to overcome all of that and convince the average american to understand the benefits. I think people need to realize that by legalizing drugs that nothing bad can really come out of that. anyone 21 and older is old enough to decide whether or not they want to go get fucked up or not, the fact that its illegal isnt a big factor. people who use drugs are not deterred by the fact that its illegal.

personally i think all "natural" drugs should be legal in the sense that alcohol/tobacco are legal (age limit). including, weed, shrooms, ayahuasca, mescaline, poppies/opium, etc. the rest should be controlled but people should not be punished with jailtime for posession.

+1 Great post :)

That would suck am under 18 that means I would not be able to get my drugs :( I am very responsible and never to stupid shit or anything I would regret when I am high so I think I should have the right to use drugs. I agree though If anything then everything should be. So since most of the good drug's(not all) are controlled I think Tobacco and Alcohol should also be controlled and not just regulated.

Why only natural? :\ Belladonna too?

What about synthetic versions of natural drugs? Or extracts like cocaine? Or if those reports of amphetamine being found in trees are correct? That should become legal?

None of them.

Give them away for free, don't make the drugs anything that can turn a profit.

Set age limits and education requirements.
