hey guys just wondering what some of ur experiences are with athletic activity and drug use. did it improve ur performance worsen it etc.

i know ppl who have used stimulants in an attempt to run faster/throw further, opiates to numb the pain in combat sports.

not sure if this has been touched on before

I graduated Korean Kickboxing (Blackbelt 2nd Dan) while smoking pot (heavily) and popping flips pretty much every weekend and didn't notice anything performance wise..

I was just slurring my word's, and my memory was pretty fucked..typical E-tard stuff..I reckon doing Kickboxing 4 night's a week kept my health balanced..but yeah during the 4 year's i did it, i kept fit and felt fine.

hmm well a friend tried to use meth to help in javelin but he threw less then usual.
ive played basketball against ppl who were stoned aand all they did was laugh and walk around lazily.
a friend attempted to play rugby whilst tripping. he was on the wing and had to come off because he got confused lol.

in my experience ive played basketball
drunk (def didnt help coordination)
on roids (definately helped didnt get tired and extra aggressive)
on opiates (probs decrease a little bit simply because i like to chill on opiates)
scat (very rough seemed like everything was 3 x harder)
hungover (mentally tough physically ok)
on speed (found i was too jittery altho a friend plays on speed all the time and does ok)
on benzos (coordination adversely affected)

a friend played rugby drunk once actually. ended up hurting himself tho and booting haha

I don't know if you are familiar with Brazillian Jiu Jitsu or Submission Grappling but there are some high level people out there that swear marijuana improves their grappling ability. Eddie Bravo and Joe Rogan both smoke a lot of dope and say it helps with their grappling. Eddie Bravo is a highly respected teacher of Submission Grappling. Joe Rogan (yes the guy from Fear Factor) commentates UFC and last I recall held a brown belt in BJJ.

I know Nick Diaz was smoking a lot of pot while being a fierce competitor in the UFC and had a victory against Takanori Gomi overturned after testing positive for marijuana in PrideFC. They claimed it numbed him to the pain of Gomi's punches or some shit, even though it is highly unlikely the positive result indicated he smoked before the fight. If he did it would definately be a disadvantage in MMA anyway.

I used to be pretty into BJJ and grappling as well as boxing and the like. Mostly self taught with DVD's and shit but I did some formal training. I always found grappling when stoned made me gas a bit easier, if I am not overly stoned I probably had a better game from bottom guard but anything else was worse, not heaps worse but definately affected.

Drinking definately affects performance and coordination, seems to increase stamina for me in grappling but decrease striking stamina.

Once I had a boxing fight with a mate after smoking some meth and I felt like I gassed quick because I was overzealous at the beginning and didn't pace myself well. I was quite unfit at the time (although less unfit than I am now :() and it took a long time for my heart rate to slow down after the fight. It was a bit uncomfortable at one stage.

I also had an experience about 2 years ago when I snorted a shitload of ritalin for the first time since high school and had a grappling match with a friend who I often practised techniques with and fought. I was amp'd as and was very aggressive, beat him rather easily where normally he would have a slight edge on me and win more often than me. Afterwards my heart was pounding and I felt so dizzy. I went and was dry heaving in the toilet for like 5 minutes and had to drink water and shit. Was very unpleasant and if I had dosed much more rits it could of been ugly. The negative after effects were probably only so bad because I hadn't used the stuff in so long and took a pretty high dose because I used to use shitloads. I still feel because of my experience boxing on meth and a couple fights I regrettably got in that stimulants give you more energy at first but they don't improve stamina as much, and they definately make for some post exercise discomfort.

When I was 14/15 I used to dig smoking weed before I pumped iron at first, but eventually just ended up ditching gym. My results started stalling as soon as I began this habit but I didn't give a shit because gym was a godo excuse to fuck off for a few hours and be high.

Its funny I have never been a sporty person despite some martial arts and powerlifting phases, I didn't think I had much to say on this but it ended up a pretty long winded post.

yeah i dont mind a bit of ufc. watching that is not much of a fighter but try to do some of the training when i can cause its hecktik.

my limited experiencing using roids suprised me just how much they enhance ur performance. not so much strength in the gym but sporting performance. fatigue is barely felt, muscles feel more explosive, agression aids in competing. just felt like i was a step ahead of everyone and im just a casual trainer.

witnessing the availability of steroids and difficulty of detecting i suspect use would be quite prevelant in aussie sport

Never got on the roids myself, despite a few oppurtunities to. It is one class of drugs that has never interested me, I understand why people want to use them in a competitive environment but I have only ever exercised and participated in sports/martial arts for my own personal development. I have always been of a mentality if your goal is self improvement then the only person you are cheating when you use steroids is yourself, as a lot of the satisfaction for me personally is that I achieved my physical goals off my own back.

mm yeah i see where ur comming from, but my curiosty is unquenchable so wanted to give it a whirl. whilst they def require alot of research (probs more then any other drug) they can be of great benefit.
ive done 2 cycles and dont plan to do another one for a long time. what i learned is that theyre better suited to professional older bodybuilders. for the the casual trainer like me the increase in mass was onl slightly more then normal cause im young and have high test naturally.
what i did like however was the increased athletic preformance and mental side effects. while on it my confidence was sky high and no problem seemed to big. roid rage was minimal tho (mainly just road rage and arguing with the gf over silly things).
if there was a drug that provided these effects id def take it altho the constant injections and side effects make it not worth it just for those effects.
didnt get man tits or anything like that altho i think my prostate increased in size slightly.

My use of drugs has had nothing but poor consequences for my athleticism.

I used to compete as a swimmer at national level and the like. however, smoking (or lack of training) has killed my endurance and can only do 50m sprints now.

I now train in muay thai and due to the extremely high cardiovascular component of the sport, smoking fucks that up for me to - have to take more breaks than i should.

maybe it is just because muay thai is really full on, but if I have a slight hangover and then train I will feel like shit. i tried training on a comedown once. never again - I came very close to spewing on the mat.

The club doctor gave me a large box of yellow vials and told me to inject them once a day. He didn't speak much English but when I asked him whether it would be picked up by the testers he just laughed and said "Not for 5 years."

I never finished the box because my partner and I decided it was time to retire but I was able to lift my shoulder above my head by the end of the week.

Amphetamines are probably the only recreational drug with any real benefit (hell, there is a reason that even high caffeine levels are banned). I played a social mid week game one night after having a cone and at the first scrum I was giggling like a girl. Nothing like the risk of being folded in two to sober you up though.

I do love exercising while stoned. I can often lose myself for 3 hours just practising kicking drills back and forward. No good for cardio vascular fitness but great for focusing on monotonous drills.

I haven't found any recreational substances good for exercising/sport really; speed I'm too afraid of a heart attack, alcohol and I'm a disaster, i don't touch weed, and well opiates and psychadelics.... lol yeh that's unlikely 8)

How about including supplements into the discussion as well seeing as steroids have been mentioned? Perhaps we could kick off an Australian-centric health/fitness/steroid/supplement - type megathread?

I'm taking creatine & whey at the moment and occasionally a popular "nitrous oxide pre-workout drink" but find it a bit too stimulating (main ingredient is 1,3-DMAA) and it makes me sweat like crazy. Have been looking into tribulus (but not sure if it'd do much as I'm only 27 so assume my test. levels would still be decent) and have taken a bajillion different stims over the years.

that sounds like a great thread idea, man, one i'd definitely be interested in. if you wanna start one and want some help then PM.

i'm cleaning up for the most part at the moment and have started exercising and aqua aerobics rehabilitation to start off with as well as just walking.

i'd be interested in hearing what other aus drug users do to keep themselves in shape:)

I'd join in on that thread as well.
Recently I've joined up at a gym to improve my general fitness and to bulk up.
Tried to do a workout while hungover and the day after taking a tab, and both times I felt really dizzy and dehydrated no matter how much water I was drinking.
All I'm using atm is some Whey powder, and maybe I'll look into buying other stuff once I notice some changes

^ Do you mean nitric oxide rather then nitrous?

Haha yeh you're right, must have had nangs on the brain ;) %)

Alrighty over the next week or so I'll try to compile some info & references on supplements I've taken like creatine, beta alanine, acetyl-L-carnitine, & ones I've had recommended like l-glutamine etc. Maybe links to the nootropics threads would be in order too?

Perhaps some of the members here who've used steroids could leap in and offer some harm reduction advice about what's common in Aussie gyms?

The only sport I was ever somewhat decent at was handball and I don't think I ever played it on drugs, wow it's been ages since I played it in high school. :D

I mean, I'm not fat I'm really slim I'm just not an athletic person at all and due to my chain smoking habit I can not breathe very well. :\

The fucking smoking gets you every time doesn't it blondie. Still fuck quitting eh.

I seriously couldn't run 25 metres to save my life nowadays I don't reckon, have no intention of finding out. haha

I like the idea of the supplement thread.

I'm currently taking whey protein, creatine and glutamine. i try and get 90grams protein from whey protein alone a day, plus eat a high amount fo protein with every meal. I'm exercising most days with weights or muay thai.

unfortunately, haven't been able to exercise for the last week due to assignments.

I reckon a supplement thread is a top idea if it relates to countering some of the negatives of drug use, I am sure there are other forums that are more suited for threads about using supplements for training/sport though.
