Drugs to aid with public speaking?

I've had a search around on this topic (in this forum) to no avail.

Are their any drugs or combinations of, that will keep your head sharp/clear but yet get rid of my anxiety of having to speak in public?

I don't have to do it very often but when I do I find my body goes through a complete physical meltdown. Heartbeat goes through the roof, I start to sweat profusely, my voice turns into total jelly, my movements seem shakey and un-natural and my body just does NOT want to deal with it. The end result is I come off looking like a complete eejit!

Now, I've tried a few times to tackle the problem by meditating and keeping my mind afixed, on say my breathing, as I'm lined up to speak. But it doesnt work. I know their are 'clubs' to help people with this issue, but I'd prefer to go the chemical route as it has never failed me before :)

Any advice?

I have the same exact problem, and this year i got placed in the class "public speaking". What luck eh? Anyways, everytime that i've had to give a report/speech in front of the class, i've taken adderall. That worked miracles for me. I have ALL the same symptoms you do, when i get up in front of a room of people that has about 30 people in it. Adderall worked for me, so it may work for you. I have also taken .75mg of xanax before a speech and that helped alot, but i perfer to take adderall cuz to me its more fun.

benzos, stimulants, possibly marijuana but for marijuana to work you have to get the dose right and get into the right frame of mind. otherwise it can make public speaking much more difficult.

Laugh all you want, but do you know what really helped me learn to speak in public, and to do it confidently? I bought Public Speaking for Dummies.

No amount of drugs could ever teach you how to unfuck yourself if you get stuck, this book does.

... they're just paying you to promote that book ;) ... but no seriously my friend thats over here right now said that he actually has that book too, and that it helped him...

Nice one! I'll go pick it up so.

Deviate, I don't know what your experience of cannibas is like, but with me the drug turns me into a complete social introvert. I get very paranoid on it and generally avoid poeple on it, full stop :)

i'm actually the same way if i get high. but if i just take one hit, it alters my perception in a way that allows me to focus on things without being concious of myself. as long as i can maintain a state where i'm only concious of what i'm doing and not of myself doing it, i have no fears and i am completely focused.

maybe it's just me.. or maybe it's rush limbaugh, but on small to moderate doses of oxycodone (and hydrocodone to a lesser extent), i'm alot more talkative. things flow easier, and i find myself making more intelligent conversation

it's not you...I find it exactly the same...it's a bitch when I ran out and I have to go to classes, cause generally I'm on oxy 24/7, ann thanks to that in most classes people knows me as an extrovert, social and speaking guy who's not afraid of doing an ass of himself...which is far from the truth, but yeah no other drug has done that to me, not even amphetamines with benzos...they just made me paranoid...the oc's are a charm...when I ran out is a different story, sometimes I don't even wanna go to class because of that

low doses of oxy, hydro or xanax would help...(low dose = depending on tolerance). I always get super chatty and thoughts tend to flow smoother and I have an easier time putting them into words when I'm on hydro or oxy...although TOO much makes me want to just lay there and nod ;)
Xanax might be a good choice, definitely helps to calm your nerves before such a thing.

Xanax, Valium, or Ecstasy would be your best bet here.

Public speaking on Ecstasy? I have the same problem as rock_lobster and I don't think it'd help to take E before reading a report infront of my class.

your gonna have to find which drug is gonna feel like it fits best for the situation. alot of stuff is personal preference, which is why i hate recomending stuff. but i'll list whats helped me.....

stimulants (adderal, dexadrine, ritalin)
opiods (hydrocodone, oxycodone)
benzos (try something light- valium, ativan)

personally i like opiods the best, i get relaxed, but energized at the same time. i feel very confinate, and words come out so easy.

hmm could you imagine someone walking in on ecstasy, with dilated pupils, eye wobbles, jaw clenchs, jaw wobbles etc. That'd be so funny.

err Good afternoon eye wobbles, err i mean...
at least you wouldn't have to worry about palm cards, your ideas would flow easily, otherwise you might end up spending half the speech feeling the texture of the palm cards ;)

I highly doubt stimulants would be of any use to you. Probably make you less social like weed does to you.

Benzos or some sort of anti-anxiety drugs are what would help you for that.
But real low doses. Otherwise you'll be mr.confidence standing there....talking away. except slurring and talking backwards like a drunk ;p

wow its pretty funny thinking of all the possobilitys you could take for different drugs.. eg LSD! WOW!!!!!
do I need to say more, alcohol.. boring.
speed.. now that'd be funny. erm could you slow down.. speaking a bit to fast and stop dancing :p ,
but if you dosed right it could be just perfect ;)

Propranolol. Any beta-blocker will alleviate those symptoms.

If you have to give interactive speeches I've heard that tramadol is wonderful. Supposedly it has a similar effects as opiates without the scatterbrain and tunnel thinking.
