Drugs Sold Under Code Names "Roofing Tar," "Roxy Shorts"
Code names like "roofing tar" and "Roxy board shorts, size 30" were used to advertise illegal drugs on Craigslist, deputies said
By Elena Gomez and R. Stickney | Friday, May 9, 2014

Illegal drugs deals were made in the open using Craigslist and similar sites with the help of code names like “Roxy board shorts size 30” and “roofing tar” investigators revealed Friday.
San Diego County sheriff’s deputies explained the code system uncovered as part of a five-month investigation called Operation.com.
Officials say dealers would use the brand “Roxy” to list the painkiller Roxicodone for sale and “size 30” would signify 30 mg. “Roofing tar” was used to list heroin.

Nineteen people were arrested after deputies made undercover buys of prescription drugs, heroine, methamphetamine, cocaine and ecstasy. Officials say they also seized $25,000 in cash as a result of five search warrants served between November 2013 and April 2014.

Commander Mike Barletta credited the idea behind the operation to simple research by one deputy who used Google to search for current drug terminology.
The department found Urban Dictionary to be a good reference guide, the commander told NBC 7.
“This is the wave of the future, we believe, Internet sales. It’s cleaner, a little safer for them. They are advertising online their wares for sale rather than standing on a corner,” Barletta said.
“We can’t shut down the Internet so we’re going to have to devote resources to this kind of operation,” he said.

The suspects, ranging in age from 26 to 46, were students or unemployed, deputies told NBC 7.
The defendants now face charges including conspiracy, possession of controlled substances and possession of controlled substances with intent to sell, officials said.
Deputies said more arrests were expected.

Haha I miss the good ole days of calling up my old Meth dealer. Seriously this kid didn't have a car.. only came by bike and he was one of the youngest Meth dealers that came on time if not earlier than what I asked.. never sketched out. Always asking me if I wanted "3 cd's of the What You Need" and this kid had some bomb Meth.. fuck I miss those days! Sober's nice I guess.. it's just no the same as being spun out! Besides Meth made me calm for the most part.. not irritable like I am now days lol wanting to kill everyone in my way!

We always called vials of raw dope bottles. Some of the slang is just crazy however, doing this shit on cl and meeting up with god knows who is the dumbest thing you can poss do when flipping.

Exactly! It's just not worth it you know the po po's be running that shit why would you wanna get caught!? I mean I know a lot of people don't know where to find drug dealers but come on.. this is just stupid!

"how many mixtapes you need today dog?"
used to get all my H and some lame fucking mixtape made on his pentium 3 computer or some retarded shit

Bath salts, incense blends..."roofing tar".
No doubt these things have been flying under the radar for years, then the press gets wind of it.

Just watch the fuck out when they find out about smokin' banana peels (again).

i remember a few years back when they didnt try to hide it, all you had to do was search for dilaudid

Hahaha that's how it should be! I know cops need to get paid and make arrests but fuck.. give us a little freedom! If somebody wants to get high let em get high.. they should all ready know the consequences man!

that sucks that folks were arrested for providing pain therepy to people in need.

At least on the street corner you can see who are selling to. If it smells like bacon run away, selling drugs on craigslist is the worst idea ever.

Were past the days of dealers posted on corners with exception of places like skid row it is the generation of mobile meets marketing on cl, instagram, and snapchat. Yea you know where to go and dont mind low quality you can find dope but if you in search of that fire u gotta hail mary sometimes...

Had no effect... you can still go on CL almost any day and find listings for tar in SoCal... every once in a while they clean em out but they're back in a few days. I almost tried it but realized I didn't want to smoke tar lol

The illegal drug scene is really interesting here as many are disconnected from it---medical marijuana has truly changed the equation in terms of accessing drugs.
