Fairnymph,
Why does there HAVE to be a fucking study done to demonstrate heroin (or any drug) is an effective anti-depressant for you to believe it's possible? Are you so closed to this idea of "alternative therapy" that you must require some sort of validation from goddamn clincial study to even accept the notion?
Seems to me the only flamboyant remarks being uttered are those that ignoarantly dictate another person's experience with a drug can only be quantified and validated if a proper academic study done on it.
An anti-depressant is something used to prevent or treat clincal depression, and if you haven't realized, this can be a variety of different things. Including things that haven't been offcially declared anti-depressants by any clincal studies out there...
The best (and most esoteric) example of this I have ever seen actually invloves a close friend of mine. He's an older guy, has had mental issues for a long fucking time and who has been diagnosed with clinical depression. No medications do anything for him (including SSRI's), no illegal drugs help, and none of that icky stuff like exercise and religion can offer him any solace whatsoever, but he finally found a cure that works for him. The only thing that seems to help him out (and I am totally serious) is taking a bunch of old cans out of the trash, lining them up on an old wooden fence at the end of his pasture and shooting the fuck out of them with his assortment of guns.
I can attest to the fact that he comes back looking 10 years younger and healthier, he's happy for weeks afterward, and if he sometimes feels a little down again, he just goes shootin up cans, just like you go pop SSRI's. He swears it's the only thing that helps him get his mind off all the bullshit keeping him down. He's been doing this for quite a few years now, and it just works wonders for him, better than any drug ever could...
Couldn't one say that for this person in particular, putting bullets in tin cans is an effective and valid anti-depressant. Wouldn't you?
Now show me an academic study done on the merits of shooting tin cans with old guns like some disgruntled old hillbilly cliche?
Anything in this world can be used as an anti-depressant, inlcuding opiates, irregardless of what you or any medical study mandates. It's something so individual and unique to each person that you can't give a final word in any case, and shouldn't be so quick to skepticism...
SovietContin,
Personally, I've been using heroin (and other opiates) to relax and sometimes to treat depression for over 4 years now. I have no problems with addiction and have the tolerance of a fucking toddler. I have never OD'd on any drug, and, surprise, there are many many people out there with the same story as me. Remember, just because you're hooked on smack and dealing with some insane fucking tolerance doesn't mean that's the only fucking way things have to go...
