Hello,

I am Directing an episode of Drugs Inc for National Geographic. The episode I am working on is focusing on Miami and I am posting on the forum as I would really like to hear from anybody who has a story to tell about drugs in the city.

Drugs Inc explores how demographic, industrial, cultural and traditional influences combine to all make each city’s drug trade unique. Each film takes a 360 degree approach filming with law-enforcement, customs, addicts, outreach workers, dealers, and medics whose daily lives are affected by the drugs business. Through this approach the shows aim to understand how the drug world functions in a particular city: Who controls it; which drugs are most prevalent; why people become involved; the dangers of the street; and the work that law enforcement does to stop it.
In no way do our programs glamorize drug use or the drug trade. We treat everyone we film with dignity and try to give a balanced representation of the issues.

If you would like to get in touch please email me at [email protected] (I apologize in advance to Bluelight moderators if giving out email addresses breaks forum rules and I'm happy to re-edit this message accordingly)

Hi 23526,
We are currently carrying out research and reaching out to people and will be travelling to Miami in 3-4 weeks time.
Thanks
Stuart

So we have Becky, Sarah and now stuart all sourcing people for their shows (drugs inc) from here, that's kind of cool I guess, there's alot of people from all over the place that come here to read and correspond on all things drugs.

You three must talk, and I guess there have been positive words said about blue light.

All the best for the shows guys and girls, most on here seem to really enjoy them, I know I sure do.

I kind of hope there is one about Australia sometime (has there been any involving Australians?), we have the highest rate of recreational drug users in the world I think I've read, lots of ecstasy, speed, heroin, cocaine and acid users (and other substances like ghb, synthetic drugs and more) and lots of pharmaceutical drug users too. We used to have alot more ecstasy and heroin users but it seems that has changed to mostly meth these days, as mdma pills and heroin were, or are not as available (because of huge busts). We have a legal heroin injecting centre in kings cross (sydney), and we have alot of cannabis users and grow houses (that are regularly getting busted, like whole houses converted into grow houses with usually immigrants tending to them) even though weed is still so illegal so many people still use it, alot (not even medicinal weed here is allowed here, which alot of people think is wrong).. And our drug prices are some of the most expensive in the world which doesn't stop all the users, and probably just entices the big players to ship drugs over to here. We have some big meth busts coming in from over seas and large cocaine shipments, sometimes sailing all the way over in boats. Our customs and border security are constantly being upgraded and using new technology and methods to detect imports, as we are on one huge island and are pretty isolated.

Thanks for your replies.

LogicSoDeveloped, an episode about Nashville is soon to go into Production so please do get in touch if you have a story to tell.

poledriver, We do all talk and both Becky and Sarah told me the responses were very positive which is why I have posted here as well.

Thanks again,
Stuart

You guys should do an episode on the Tennessee marijuana industry.

as per an email from the first chick that posted about the seattle episode they are doing a Drug INC on nashville. at first it was supposed to be memphis but i believe the channel decided to go with nashville.

EDIT: if anyone on BL happens to get involved in the Nashville episode I BEG YOU please stress that the southern US is in DIRE need of harm reduction practices and information on every level. the bible belt is a horrible place to be if you are a drug user. i know memphis has one of the biggest population of HIV and Hep C due to the fact that you can not obtain clean syringes without a prescription...someone needs to force this subject into the spot light....

human life doesnt seem to be too high up on southern states list of important things....if youre a drug user.

it's the same way in nashville about the syringes, I tried to go buy some for my electronic cigarette to drip e-liquid in and they wouldn't sell me one. I wasn't even trying to use it to get high is the dumbest part.

You should call the Nashville episode, "Nashville, Ten-a-key"

Also, you should cover law enforcement corruption. Today, they debated a bill in our state's legislature that involved civil asset seizure and "policing for profit."

the above link was the result of a 2 year investigation by a local news team.

I agree Memphis; in Virginia it was close to impossible to buy a box of insulin syringes; I had to literally go to at least twelve pharmacies to only find one or two which would sell to me, both of which stopped selling to me within months :!

DC has the highest HIV rate in the United States, and when I was living in Virginia and driving (1.5 hours, one way) to go up to DC to go to their needle exchange, they eventually shut down that needle exchange (funds were mismanaged; someone got in charge of running the place that should have never been in charge of it).

It's a shame that places with the highest rates of HIV have the worst social policies...and often it isn't so much laws that prevent people from buying needles, it's overzealous pharmacists who are on a power trip, and have no consideration for future generations. Sadly, as people keep reproducing, more and more people will continue to spread HIV, and one day, such overzealous pharmacists will likely have relatives/children/grand-children with HIV as a result of quite possibly their own over-zealousness. Quite the irony when you think about it like this.
