Drugs in the workplace (Merged)

i don't think obama ever promised to be pro-drug anything except medical mmj, which he did lie about

but i think your inferring something (from a racial stereotype) that isn't there

It's not exactly telemarketing but telefundraising, and yes, there is a difference between the two; anyway, I am in this line of work now, and it sucks.

Yes, they are different, and I've done BOTH. Ugh, what misery, I'm not sure if selling credit cards or asking for donations is worse...however, the credit card people definitely had the worse insults. I had to quit after a while because although these jobs pay well, I think it's hard to deal with yourself sometimes after a long shift of being rejected/yelled at/cursed at/insulted. At the selling job, drugs were EVERYWHERE...I don't think me nor anyone else ever walked into a shift sober. Some kid was being trained once and he nodded out...they had to fire him for that though. Other people would blow lines of oxy in the bathroom, and one time I was having a bad day and the manager told me to go out to my car and have a "weed break" to get my performance back up. They expected you to be on SOMETHING to do that job efficiently.

When I worked in the food industry, the manager actually sold drugs out of the restaurant, so once again, lots of drugs going on there.

Now, I work in retail unfortunately, and since we all work "alone" I don't really see any of my coworkers, but I'm assuming they aren't high at work almost ever...one of them is super into nutrition and I don't even think he drinks. I haven't shown up high, although with benzos (thankfully, prescribed) the job wouldn't be doable either.

LOL! A "weed break." I don't mind telefundraising so much because it is for a worthy cause, most of the time, at least. It's definitely not a job that you can do forever, but it puts money in your pocket for the time being, you know?

I work as a sysadmin in a web hosting company and few people do drugs, some you can tell they do but will never admit it, only one or two guys I can really talk about the topic and they are interested and tried lot of things, but for some reason they really fear talking about it. Although it was fun when this guy I randomly talked about pills, alcohol and that, came to my office to me begging for some uppers, I had Modafinil and remember giving him 200mg and the guy was hyped and happy all the day after that.
Myself, I somewhat fear what I can might do stoned or nodding at work with those terminal to heavy traffic servers; but being a sysadmin/netadmin @ uppers ( Adderall, Modafinil, lots of Coffee and whatever else) rocks, you are a monitoring, programming, wiring things, replying lots of mails, changing to monitor B, then loading virtual machine C, while doing that tape backup on the datacenter. You become a non stop netmachine, it's awesome.
But the crash it's one of the worse, you better stock on some Alprazolam, Carisoprodol, Diphenhydramine, Gabapentin, etc. if you don't want your head to explode.

I'm an offshore fisherman and spend long periods of time on my boat weeks at a time . From what I've seen this profession is riddled with drug use. Whether the boat is at the dock and the guys are using on land or if the boats are out at sea. The job is physically brutal with extremely long hours when out on a trip. The physical pain of the work has almost 85% of the crew on painkillers or heroin.Due to the long hours on deck usually 20 hours on deck 4 hours off. With those 4 hours being your time to eat, shower and sleep. This has probably half the rest of the crew on coke or crack. I'm sure it would be meth it were around here but it hasn't made it big here yet. Weed is just a constant thing on board every boat. It's really fucked up bc all the guys try to bring enough dope to make through 2 weeks the usual length of a fishing trip. The problem is that you could never bring enough and most guys run out and spend the last days of the trip dope sick and stuck at sea. You thought being on land withdrawing was bad trying being 24 hours out to sea with absolutely nothing to do about it. A lot of captains are cool about it and will actually turn the boat for land and make the 24 hour steam back to land with the dope dealer waiting at the docks. These boats bring in millions of dollars in seafood so turning the boat around and burning $8,000 in fuel isn't that big of a deal compared to the money they'll be bringing in. I've also heard stories of a local dealer now that owns a boat and actually steams out on his boat as far as he feels comfortable so the boat doesn't have to turn all the way. Fisherman around here make great pay so it's not like he's going out there to sell a gram. It's usually a couple kilos. So is drug use accepted in this profession I'd say yes. It is extremely illegal to carry drugs aboard an offshore vessel. The US Coast Guard is completely aware of how fucked up we fishermen are and are constantly boarding our vessels but not once have I seen them search for drugs. Just safety inspections and searching for illegal fish or over boundary fishing. Wierd huh

Oh God, that reminds me of like three or four years ago working in retail... I use to love eating a bunch and I mean a bunch of Klonopins and Dexedrine Spansules... I was the best associate in the regional manager's eyes, won "associate of the month" on several occassions.

Now I work as someone that goes to foreclosed homes and checks on the status of the vacancy, and condition of the property... so amphetamines and opiates.... particularly (snorted) H, works well for me... maybe if I did not do opiates every day they would not be very good for my work... as I can snort fucking 3/4 of a gram and not catch a nod... it does make me work really hard though... sometimes I like mixing my amphetamine medicine with the diesel to get off to a good work day. I do about 70 houses in around 8 hours driving around in my local towns.

^ Yeah I always figured most of those Alaskan crab guys would be on a shit load of who knows what kind of pharmaceutical opiate out at sea to do that kind of long work
Actually know a bunch of dudes from up there. Some from the show some not and it's the same exact situation up there. I guess it's just part of being a commercial fisherman. Got a few good stories of partying and getting all fucked up with those crab fisherman. Crazy times up there man.

Shooting up at work?

Hey BLers,

I personally love booting up at work. Besides the amazing rush and feeling, I also like having a kind of secret that other people dont know about. It just all around to me awesome. I know some people dont have time or what not while on the job but personally i just go into the bathroom, my process takes about 10-15 min, and just do my thing. Who else, if anyone, does this? and whats your method?

I can't say i've done so, but out of curiosity, do you ever feel your performanced hindered at all? Or do you find it increases productivity?

I would say an increase in productivity. Being high at work makes me a lot happier and i go out of my way to help people out and do things i normally wouldnt, unless its not busy, in which case i find myself nodding out sometimes lol

I feel the same way about drugs and heroin in particular... it's an exclusive club, and you feel kind of slick setting up in a bathroom and doing your thing.

That being said, I still wouldn't advise doing it. I've done it... hell, I've had my girlfriend bring a bag to me at work before, but uh... do as I say and not as I do lol ;)

Haha ive done a lot more than that at work ie. setting up deals, having peeps roll by to hook them up, etc. but it is an exclusive club, i just wish people like us had something we could wear like a bracelet or pin that would tell other users u were partners in crime lol...obviously that would not work, im just sayin...

Granted I don't take anything illicit regularly (aside from weed), I do take kratom on an almost-daily regimen. When I kratomize, I am an all star at work, happy, chipper, motivated, energetic, comfortable, and DAMN productive! I have even taken kratom to work, mixed it into a bottle of orange juice, shook it up and downed it right in front of coworkers. I'm at a slight advantage though, because after all kratom is perfectly legal and can be passed off as a 'organic energy drink' if someone asks, and they usually leave it at that. It also doesn't have the potential to get a person 'mad fucked up yo' because it isn't like a full on opiate high, it's more like caffeine with a side of mild euphoria. If you up the dosage, effects don't increase, you just get nauseous.

I've also had many a cup of kava root tea at work, but that also falls into the same category as kratom for the same reasons stated above.

If it was anything else, I'd be deathly afraid of going down in work place history as 'that one guy they caught shooting up in the bathroom'. Every work place has one of those stories...you hear about it all the time. This one was caught cutting up lines on the urinal, this other dude got caught toking up in his car, someone else was walked in on while smoking a bean off of foil, etc.. I'd hate to be one of those guys...

Yea this is my main fear, but how things are set up at my job, really the only way i could get caught would b my own negligence which makes me super cautious, but seeing as ive been able to do this for the past 2 years at so at a couple different jobs i guess ive grown a little jaded to being caught lol

Most that have been caught have had that same approach to it. I am guilty of going to work high many times in the past, but now I look back on it, it was a really stupid unneeded risk. If you get caught, or (more likely) there is some kind of genuine accident at work and you get sent for a drug test, you will loose your job, possibly face charges and possibly have it hinder your search for another job.

As a board about harm reduction, I feel you should get high on your own watch and be merry

Believe me i know the risks associated with this and fully aware of what can happen as an outcome, just the mere act of shooting up has many of these related risks. My initial curiosity about this knowing that i do it is Im wondering if anyone else does this as well?
