Drugs in 2120: Your Predictions

What is the future of drugs? Basically I made the year far off enough to allow for some really out there (yet still plausible) ideas. Mine are:

Direct Neural Stimulation. If/When humans are finally able to place chips in our brains and develop a method for accessing that system externally (think the nape-plug from Ghost in the Shell) then maybe it'll be possible to make your brain produce signals that mimic the effects of certain drugs with a simple program. Think of how awesome it would be to be able to press a button or insert a disk or something and be able to feel the full effects of MDMA or heroin (or both) without the withdrawal or comedown, and make it stop when you want to.

You could create new drug programs which cherry-pick the very best effects of all of them. The empathy, and pleasure of E, the rush and relaxation of opiates, the confidence of alcohol, the visuals of LSD, the possibilities are limitless.

As for traditional drugs, I think there will always be a place for them, especially in the less-technologically evolved places, but I think with the increasing power of technology (specifically surveillance technology), the government will more or less turn into a police state, capable of tracking and monitoring everyone/anyone on the globe making traditional illicit drugs harder to manufacture, traffic, and consume.

What are your thoughts?

I hope the gov never puts chips in peoples brains that just sounds like some mind control shit where dictators rise up and just control the world with no freedoms for the regular people like you and me. But as far as drugs in the future go think of all the RCs they are making right now and how they just keep on coming out with new ones. There will probably be such a larger variety of drugs by then because of how profitable the RC market is, and how people love to make money, so people will just continue to create new drugs so they can make more money. Just my thoughts tho

Maybe something like in Brave New World where the government keeps the people under control by giving them with the perfect recreational drug.

I haven't seen Minority Report in a while, but damn that's a great movie. Or maybe whatever the drug is in A Scanner Darkly.

Also, this:

Whatever that guy was shooting in Pitch Black looked tasty. And must have been good cuz he let some chick die in pain rather then share. Other then that RCs will be the future im sure. Too many of them for there not to be atleast one that makes it mainstream lol.

drugs in 2020

Well, cause 2020 is in our lifetime. So,,,,what do you think it will be like 9 years?? I think there will be ultra potent heroin everywhere. Nothin else comes to mind..

But to answer the OP. Drugs in 2120. Ultra opiates, pharmiceuticals that blow even the best heroin out of the water. And cocaine that lasts like 3 times longer than it does. Imagine that!!!

In 9 years time fingers crossed there will have been a huge reform in international drugs policy.
We'll actually have true governance our bodies for the first time in (far too many) years.
With this should come increased amounts of R&D into recreational drugs. Meaning better, cheaper, "classic drugs" and novel new compounds.

or much more realistically...
A shift of attitudes will not happen in our lifetime, drug use will continue to be stigmatized and looked down on, including nicotine and alcohol.

Hahaha i see what you mean about the near future!! Realistically, things prolly aint gona change that much. Oh well..

I dont see us humans being here on earth in 2120. I see an extinction of human kind. But if we are, RC's will be the future.

I don't know. I don't foresee very many "big" things happening in 2012.

I am sure that there will be more formula changes in the world of pain killers, and the price on those still abuse-able will again skyrocket.

I can definitely see heroin growing more popular, perhaps related to the changes in formula, perhaps not, but I see it happening nonetheless...
