Drugs for Creativity

Aside from hallucinogens, what drugs let you connect with your creativity? I've found that alcohol can work sometimes, and amphetamines can work to a certain extent. Sometimes I like to write & compose music when I'm on substances.
I understand that Absinthe was very popular with a lot of famous French painters and poets, and entire books have been written by people under the influence of opiates...
What have you found?
-Myco

Some of the greatest painters were out of their minds (ie. Van Gogh) but being an artist myself I've done quite a few works under the influence. The only drugs that ever inspired me to start drawing were acid, shrooms, E, and meth. Although the drug influenced artwork I produced was jam packed with ideas and visions, it tended to lack the quality of art that I could produce while sober. Unless of course, I intended to make frantic and endless psychedelic patterns or collages.

the suspense is terrible... i hope it will last.

As a writer, I've found that alcohol allows me to write very effortlessly. If I sit down with just a couple of cold beers, I can churn out a thousand words in half an hour and not even realize the time has passed.
Codeine has a similar effect. I imagine anything relaxing can help you trance out and just flow with your work. I've found I have to start writing BEFORE it kicks in, otherwise I'll never make it to the computer.
I used adderral<sp?> a couple months ago to get out of a lethargic writer's block and it worked quite well.
I smoke a lot of cigarettes when I'm writing and that seems to get the neurons firing.
Coffee, of course, is a must for ANY artist.
Weed has never been good for me to get anything linear done, but for brainstorming, and just kicking out new ideas weed is the best thing I've ever come across. Smoke some and sit down with a pen and listen to music and just write the thoughts that come into your head. You'll surprise yourself.
I had an LSA experience several weeks ago, and had hoped that it would hold creative potential but unfortunately it didn't. I had a terrible time, the trip report is here in other drugs somewhere. It may have been different had the trip been less miserable, unfortunately the soreness and body load was horrifying.
I try to limit how often I do my work under the influence, because I do not want to become dependent on any substance for creativity. I read in Stephen King's book On Writing that after he quit using drugs and alcohol, he thought for a while he would have to give up writing altogether. It was hard for him to get back to writing without the chemicals. So I'm wary.
I would love to hear other people's experiences.
Love,
Pure

Intelligence is not best measured by the answers you have but by the questions that you ask

Well Im no expert but Id have to say any type of opiates,They just make everything so perfect and complete. Every thought is like an orgasm. Nothing you think can be wrong. Im really tweaked on some pain meds right now, ignore me if I sound gay...lol.

LONG ANSWER = Experiment and see what works for you. When I rolled and smoked i went home and wrote like 40 pages... (its not great) but you get the idea.
Anything can inspire you, you just have to see what hits you the best.
SHORT ANSWER = E + weed

Weed works for me!!

its different for everybody is my opinion. whatever drugs you may try that get you inspired. experiment, that whats its all about. drugs don't affect everyone the same. like how if you are in a bad mood, your roll can suck, but if you're in a great mood, well then thats why we all do it.

LSD.... end of story

Mushrooms mushroom mushrooms. I' m not even a writer/artist or anything and I wrote 8 or 9 pages of stuff during a trip. For some reason i felt like my thoughts needed to be recorded, like they were really really important. unfortunatly my parents found the writing and busted me for doing drugs...but thatz another story.

I did just the right amount of K to be able to sit upright and type and be almost out there, I just started typing and didnt stop for 30 min, aside from the grammar errors, I produced amazing things that were a treat to read sober
Also Meth for drawing, coloring, or writing down something fast

Psychedelics + oil painting isn't a good idea, IMO. Too easy to turn it to mud, which can be kinda sad, or provoke worse emotions- but I'm emotional about painting.
I highly suggest acrylics vs. oil, it dries faster, is less messy, and usually non-toxic (you never know- you might end up absent-mindedly putting paint- tainted fingers in your mouth or something), and you don't need flammable mediums like turpentine/oid.
If you must use oils, use oil sticks. Like drawing with a big oil crayon. Lotsa fun, not so messy or unruly.
Looking forward to having drug-induced creative experiences in my summer painting studio. I think my instructor would be tolerant.

the beat poets used amphetamines, jack keroac wrote on teh road in 28 days jacked up on benzadrine. ive written crazy shit on hydroxycut, ephederine, dexadrine, and xenadrine (not all these drugs a the same time).one night ten years ago on lsd i was drawing paintings one night that i was sure would sell for a milion each, writing hit songs that were going to go to number one, and writing sayings that were going to elevate me to cult status.i knew 100percent that people were going to mail me money and throw me there underwear when i walked down the street. i had become a superstar for the price of $20 worht of acid. i woke up the next day and it was all crap. (fun experience though after an insane depression for a week i finally made something of my self).
with the amphetamines you can write focused for hours but i find with the psychedelics you can create whacked out shit that you can use to write movies about when you are sober.

ok, first of all for a lot of people (especially ME) drugs do make you more creative. Before i started (ab)using drugs i had little or no creativity...
and more importantly...DXM works the creative side of my brain the most. Yep like a high second plataeu dose and some weed...

I've gotta say meth and opium. Not at the same time, mind you. The meth is good with a bit of alcohol. I write a lot of over-romantacised, gritty, not very happy fiction. Could be called scifi...but not really. Anywho, I find that after tweaking for a couple days, and having one or two quarter bags remaining...I'll bust it into hot rails and write for 24 hours straight.
Opium though, is great. Gotta find it though, i never see the shit around here. But i find it sorta chills out the right center of my head, stimulates the rest of it. Dunno. Not like OC's or Vicodin. That hash-like opium, smoked. Oh so good.

i'd have to say weed works for me, i've never really tried on acid or e, i've always been doing something else. when i get stoned i just go pick up my guitar and play.
