I found this article in the Canberra Times
on Saturday July the 8th
(apoligies to johnboy and anjele) but i think this needs to be said here rather than in the free for all media and busts section as it is most relevant to us aussies.
'The Federal Governments chief drugs adviser Salvation Army Major Brian Watters, defended yesterday changes made to toughen up the anti-drugs message in a booklet for parents.
Substantial changes have been made to the booklet, shifting its approach from EDUCATION to AUTHORITARIAN.
The booklet will be mailed to one million house holds this month in conjunction with national television and newspaper advertisments."
Iam mortified by this attempt at the government to largely misinform the general australian public further, the pamphlet no doubt will contain contradictary hardline drug abstinence information, those in the article have said that the amendments are nothing but personal hardline views.
Two opposition health spokespersons had this to say in the article (while being politically correct i commend there comments)
"A public campaign using substantial public funding should be based on the best expert advice about what will work" Ms Macklin said
Mr Kerr also had this to say in the article "It appears the document had dumped information about the dangers of abusing legal drugs such as Alcohol and tobacco"
Sometime over the next day or so i will post the article in its entirety.
Is it me or are we about to go down the American line of get tuff on drugs and drug users?
