Hello all. I'm a writer and I've never disvovered this section before, so this is like Christmas. Here's a poem to start me off. I wrote this ages ago. It's about drugs and what they can do. Tell me what you think.
It starts out as a bit of fun,
but quickly becomes number one.
Why stay stuck upon the ground
When you can fly up to the silver sun?
Idealisms abound,
In all their naïve tones:
“I love you man.”
“Fuck! This is great!”
“We’ll never be alone.”
And on and on it goes.
It speeds by nice and slow.
You keep on changing channels
But you’re watching the same show.
Amends may then be made,
But only temporary trades;
Like trying to tell yourself that this
Is one of the last times.
For what you’ve found is not profound,
It’s simply something that’s found you.
You just can’t let go
Of what you now know.
Can’t go back to being safe
When you can feel like God.
Destruction will come in the realm of disguise,
While your free as an eagle tracing the skies.
Slowly decaying your memories of time.
Through a masquerade of powdered lies.
Now sewing up your callow dreams
You try to join them at the seams,
And almost lose that fading light,
Almost forget how to fight…
That darkness crawling from beneath
With baited breath and razor teeth.
But never did you wonder why
That life just crept right on by
Nights and days a dull malaise,
Trapped within your sullen cage.
Soon enough you start to feel
Like butter scraped on too much bread
An emptiness is growing, now
In places where you feared to tread.
The way that feelings used to be
Is now all but a mystery
Those laughs of joy
Those cries of pain
Of fucking something
Down the drain.
Other people’s memories
Are washing slowly over these;
Welcoming are the waves of sweet disease.
Dancing on a silver screen
To places where you should have been,
you hear that silent, desperate scream:
A requiem for aimless dreams.
How’d you fall so far away?
Into where I cannot stay.
With happiness so hard to chase
You need a different kind of heaven
Flowing through your veins.
It starts out as a bit of fun,
but quickly becomes number one.
