Drug use falls but laughing gas trend revealed

Polls, surveys, statistics... Things which should never be taken too seriously. More people than ever take drugs, from what I can see, and start a lot younger.

Wonder how many people saying they took no illegal drugs in the last year were taking legal RCs instead?

This bit made me titter...

It also found that almost four out of five people thought cannabis was either "very" or "a bit" unsafe.

Four out of five sounds high... but there's a helluva difference between saying you think something is "very unsafe" and thinking that something is "a bit unsafe".

and it's meaningless without knowing what other options were available.

Do you think cannabis is a) totally without risk? b) a bit unsafe? or c) very unsafe?

You can see the government analysis of the data here. The CSEW is actually pretty good as far as their methodology goes - the actual options for that particular question were

1. very unsafe
2. a bit unsafe
3. fairly safe
4. very safe

My problems with the survey lie with their calling MDMA "ecstasy" (do respondants know the difference?) and their shit reporting on legal highs which actually moved me enough to write about it, though I concluded that it wouldn't really make the huge difference I secretly want it to.

So that big question is: what is this trend that's making drug use go down? Surely people aren't simply lying more about their habits so what on earth is going on if it doesn't coincide with legal high use or anything else at all???

The key is in the first sentence of the article: 'The proportion of adults who say they use illegal drugs has fallen to its lowest level since records began, a Home Office study suggests'.

I'm sure that many of those adults who once would have taken illegal drugs, are now using 'legal highs' instead in order to avoid problems at work due to the increasing likelihood of company drug testing and to avoid getting a criminal record if caught. So while our government and law enforcement are patting each others' backs and sucking each others' cocks thinking that they are winning the 'war on drugs'; in reality, increasing numbers of adults are risking their health and sanity on more & more untried & untested compounds. Why we have the ACMD is a complete mystery to me, because the government never listen to a word they say (e.g. the recent ban on Khat).

See I thought that FUBAR, but it doesn't make sense. The rate of decline is constant and doesn't coincide with the rise of the RC market at all.

It's interesting to note that alcohol use in young people is falling too, and apparently other studies report the same trend.

I heard on the telly last night that Nitrous Oxide was the 2nd most used drug in the UK.

What?? I've never heard so much pish in my life.

Where are all these gas buzzing youngsters hiding out? I'm regularly a part of the club scene and I've barely come across it anywhere. It's a novelty for a few folk on holiday in Spain etc. and that's it.

Stay behind and see me for 100 lines and a thorough caning then, Ms Straight :!

Once you've had your 100 lines (or some Powder of Swirlsome Joy or other) and huff a coupla whippets you will be thoroughly caned :D
