Drug stash found at police station

October 21, 2010 - 1:02PM

A envelope filled with marijuana has been found hidden in ceiling at a police station in Melbourne's north sparking an internal investigation.

A police statement released today said the cannabis was found in a ceiling cavity at the Mill Park police station yesterday while routine maintenance work was being done of the building.

Police said the find was reported to the Ethical Standards Department which has initiated an investigation into how the contraband came to be placed there. It was discovered above an area used by police officers for sleeping.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman said the exact amount discovered had not been revealed by investigators.

It is understood that the envelope and the marijuana would be forensically examined as part of the ESD investigation.

Drug stash FAIL! =D

I have a feeling this will get slipped under the carpet and we will hear little more about it...

fuck that, id skip straight past the weed and look for the confiscated mdma section. :P

good post, had a chuckle.

It's not HR related so I am kinda going against our new rule of 'no media unless it's HR related'.

I do think this deserves to be shown in Aus DD because it just shows the irony of prohibition and Aussie drug users are forever in the firing line of Victoria Police.

Haha, I hope this sparks a mass investigation and all police stations are searched with sniffer dogs for the rest of the drugs they've seized and stolen for their own use.

Not just Victoria, it's the whole country. It took me almost 20 minutes to explain to these cops that had pulled me over that the 'smoking implement' they were seizing was a vaporizer and NOT a bong.

"Mate, it's a bong"
"No officer, it's a vaporizer, I want to preserve my lungs"
"No, it's a bong, I can smell the weed"
and so on...

Fools, they took it anyway.

Why does every thread in aus drugs have to have a harm reduction topic??? Why can't we just discuss topics freely??? And realistically if you go deleting reports with no HR value you would have to delete 60 to 70 percent of threads here.

As much as I don't like saying it BL isn't facebook. There is a time and a place for everything and while although this one is interesting it's not really a beneficial harm reduction resource. Nonetheless, as Psilo said, it highlights the irony of this silly drug war.

Everyone knows drug use among police is rife. I could name a handful of drug using senior(ish) police off the top of my head (and not just weed either - everything). I'm sure many others could do the same too.

were you charged for that?
I've always wondered if they would even know wtf my vaporizer is. its pretty wild looking.

Outlaw motorcycle gangs must have put it there. These criminal organisations are becoming so sophisticated that they're now hiding their drugs inside police stations. What we need is more laws.

Not trying to de-rail the thread, so my innerself if you want to reply send me a PM. But just answering your question. Us Mod's are trying to keep a balance of HR and interesting stuff, clearly this thread is in the latter. But it's good for a laugh. We're not nazi's us mod's, believe it or not. But we have to draw the line somewhere, and we do our best to draw it where we believe it should be.

Also, I have a feeling someone was brought in for questioning and stashed the drugs in the ceiling so he wouldn't get busted with them. Maybe. Or it's just cops stashing drugs at the station. Idiots!

did it not make anyone ask how they can 'forensically examine' a handful of buds?? dont know whats goin on thereeeee

Various tests can be used to determine if plant material is cannabis. Besides microscopy to view the glandular trichomes and/or characteristic leaf patterns and resin formation, the Duquenios-Levine test is a reagent similar to Ecstasy testing kits, but which indicates constituents of marijuana. This reagent contains a vanillin-acetaldehyde-ethanol mixture which is mixed with chloroform and HCl and the sample. Some diazonium dyes are also indicators (e.g.Fast Blue BB). Other than those, there's a range of lab tests that may also be employed.
