Drug-sniffing dogs are now for hire

Underneath the mattress isn't going to cut it. Neither will tucking it behind the stack of "Twilight" books. Not even pushing it deep into the toe of a smelly gym shoe.

The dog will find it. And he'll know it's not oregano.

A new service in Maryland is promising parents peace of mind by allowing them to essentially rent a drug-sniffing dog, a highly trained canine that will come to their house and within seconds, detect even the tiniest whiff of narcotics. The program allows ordinary moms and dads access to a search tool typically reserved for law enforcement — and typically aimed at suspected criminals.

Dogs Finding Drugs will, indeed, uncover teens' stashes. Whether those kids talk to their parents again remains to be seen.

This story comes up every once in a while. Further in the article it talks about how other ventures such as this, some of which we've discussed here before, aren't faring so well. Not really surprising...

If this is what you (general) use to help build a "relationship" with your kids, then your kids will not respect or trust you.

The more irrational and totalitarian my parents got with my drug use, the weaker and weaker my relationship with my parents became. It formed a distrust, and lying habits between the both parties of the relationship even to this day. Its sad.

Man, Im sorry you're parents were dickheads to you. :(

You're right, it's just going to drive a big wedge between parents and children.

When I was at home I had this couch in my room. One day a friend of mine came over I hadn't seen in about 6 months and was like
"you smokeing weed?"
"Nah iv not touched that in about 6 months"

So we sat and talked for a while and hes like
"there is weed here I can smell it".

So he started sniffing around the area he was in like a dog untill he had is fact planted into the spot he was just sitting. He reached down the back out the seat and pulled out a heap of rubbish. In this rubbish he opened up a piece of paper that countained a nice bud.

I was really impressed, no weed had been in my room for really 6 months and he smelled it. Since I gave up weed I let him keep his find (probably $20 worth). So if parents want, sean will find pot in their childrens rooms for them as long as he gets to keep it :P :).

Just a note after he found the bud he kept looking throught the seat and found someones mobile phone. It would have been there for over a year easy.

this. their efficacy is so low as to be worrying...

and this. parents are acting out of pure fear and misinformation, sabotaging their families and kids. way too many parents...

i have a way with words sometimes, so i've given *some* sense of reason to my parents.. but they'll never budge from having "drugs are bad" as a core part of their life philosophy...

... while being addicted to caffeine and alcohol yet in denial about it

and my parents are quite liberal in their parenting style compared to most, so i'm one of the lucky ones. i see families torn apart and yeah it is really sad. i got kicked out of the house once for poppies :)

they thought i was fucked up on drugs. what was actually happening, was that i was fucked up from quitting the drugs 8) i don't think some people are capable of understanding that opiates and marijuana etc don't necessarily inhibit your thinking/behavior, and people use them for a reason, sometimes good reason... when they think of "drugs", they think of "super-alcohol" type effects, which couldn't be farther from the truth

This makes me feel really sad. It's like the parents trust the government propaganda about drugs more than they trust their own offspring. What a sad state of affairs.
Why they would expect their children to trust them when they don't trust their children is baffling to me.
I would rather trust my (hypothetical) heroin-addicted child than the government lie-machine that says that drug users are evil.

i would imagine if parents did that to most kids, their kids would immediately move out ASAP and never talk to them again
i understand the right to be able to look through your kids room, its their hosue ya know, but this shit is just excessive.
fucking ridiculous.

"We talk about the kids' right to privacy and in my house. They don't have a right to privacy," she says with a little laugh. "If they're doing anything in here they shouldn't, I have a right to know about it."

Yeah, and once your now senior in high school son turns 18, it will be the last time you ever hear or see from him. Happy trails!

that bitch needs to read a fucking history book
the right to privacy was considered FUCKING ESSENTIAL by the founding fathers, its in the goddamned bill of rights.
yeah not privacy from your parents but privacy from unreasonable searches/seizures.
