drug references in Disney's Holes

I think those cigarettes that they smoke in Half-Baked aren't really normal cigarettes ... but don't tell anyone ... ssssssh

Anyone remember that unpopular Disney movie from the mid-80s, The Black Tar Cauldron? It's about growing opium, processing it into heroin and smuggling it out of Central Asia with a plucky band of misfit characters who learn the true meaning of whatever along the way.

Also, Disney has the Air Bud movies which not only have a drug reference in the title, but are also centered around something you'd likely talk about while chemically altered ("Hey, if you could teach a dog to play basketball...").

Walt Disney was one to induldge in ehhh... drugs.

He used to be close with a family friends and would come to visit, back in the day. Oil families (old money), he did a strange painting of goldfish swimming up their stairway.

The family he visited was heavy into intoxication and living the 'good life', and they were known to partake in substances and booze and sit on the back porch and shoot the breeze.

Bet a Million Gates, $$$

disney movies have lots of things in them that are hidden in them....can see the priests boner in little mermaid

^ haha ive seen that shit. Along w/ "Sex" written in the sky in Lion King, and in Aladin you hear someone whisper "take off your clothes"

i cant recall any drug references tho. i think that shit is cool, you can just imagine some small editor's assistant adding stuff in just to fuck around.

Yeah, I'm sure writers and artists--even Disney eomployees)will subtly include drug references. There have been numerous sex ones discovered and proven and I'm sure it's the same with drugs...... so, while some may be far-fetched, I'm sure there is also a respectable number that isn't.

As a classic victorian, the only drug he probably ever took was tea with no sugar.

That would be most incorrect. Victorian society was alot like American society today...they were trying many drugs to cure this or help deal with that. Remember opium was a big thing back then and let's not forget absinthe (sp?).

when i say, a social deviant, i don't mean anything derogatory. but you have to admit, a man who strictly associated with young girls exclusively is somewhat deviant. he had a really hard time socializing with anyone who had hit puberty, and demonstrated a stutter around most adults. i think his eccentric behavior was partly due to this.

ummmmm.....i think you may have had a certain Charlie Chaplin in mind. I think he was this sorta famous silent film actor in like the 1800s......even before BAttleship Potemkin was showing.

Lewis Carroll was a strange cat, but his reputation has been blown way out of proportion.

He wasn't really that big of a perv. By today's standards, yes he would be considered a pedophile, but I believe that Caroll felt his activities with children were truly benign and innocent. He was very uncomfortable with adults, not really a sexual deviant. (Still it's not cool to take naked pics of kids Lewis, tsk tsk.)

Also he wasn't really hardcore into drugs. I believe he messed around a little with opiates and he used laudanum (opium tincture) for "medical" reasons and he was trying to describe some of his experience with drugs in his writings, but it wasn't like he was some big time drug advocate guru.

IMO Carroll was flawed but very gifted, and deep down was a very caring man. He truly loved children. He wanted to instill a sense of enchantment in kids and also educate them in fun and different ways. Acidfiend already mentioned how most of his writings were designed to teach children math and logic through a literary vehicle. Pretty smart if you ask me. He also was a skilled photographer and loved logistical games like tangrams (Chinese game were you arange geometric shapes to form pictures.) He also found an algorithim to calculate a date's day of the week.

Here's a pic taken by Carroll of the original Alice that the book was written for.

"If i'm not mistaken he was also a pedophile. Sick fuck, at least he could write well."

hating a pedofile is the same concept as hating a homo.

"always thought the book alice in wonderland was more or less a narration of an acid trip"

she eats something and gets really small, then she gets big, the caterpillar was sitting on a red mushroom with white circles..... these all point to amanita muscarias... and acid was made in the mid 1900s.... but your close:) a lot of the wierd shit in the book, i can relate to in certain trippy dreams and certain feelings and ways of thinking from when i was little

...and a note to my original post about Lewis Caroll: I'm pretty sure he smoked hash in addition to using opium.

Not sure if he ever really "tripped", well at least he got a buzz on.
