Any suggestions? My symptoms are mild depression and moderate anxiety.

Prozac?

I am on benzo's but they won't help the shyness, they will make it worse but it does reduce the anxiety.

Neurontin helps me some but its not enough.

What benoz you on, ever try Xanax? Social anxiety and shyness aren't real diseasses you know..therefore they can't be cured. Start smoking pot if you don't already do that. It's a proccess and over time of smoking pot you will become more lazy and comfortable around people. Anyone else who can back this??

raoulduke, pot has done the opposite for me. i get agitated and uncomfortable around people. i have smoked it over 1000 times so i have experience.

Right now i am on ativan, i switched to it from xanax cause its cheaper. But i think xanax is slightly better. But all benzos have the same feel, like opiates only more related.

I want a longer term solution, i dont want stimulants or opiates.

I have the same damn problem and it sucks. I have been through a wide spectrum of anti-d's and just about all the benzos and combos therefore.

Im slowly starting to realise that I am not going to find the cure I am looking for in a pill.

Opiates make me isolate myself
Benzos work at first, but the memory loss fuks with me to bad
Combos of opiates and benzos work, but addiction comes into play.

The shyness factor is what I need help with, why I have this I dont know why. It can be so aggravating at times, anxiety is ok but I have a bigger problems with shaking. I think all the drugs i HAVE DONE WREAKED MY cns AND shaking just does not fly when I am trying to pick up girls. Something I do to make myself feel better I guess. I have no problem doing that, but I am just not happy.

I was just talking to my friend about this Sat. night and I was saying how I wish they had a pill for exactly what you described and he said your taking it.

I was on 70mg of Valium, 2mg of Xanax, and 1 gram of cocaine in my pocket. Washed down appetizers with vodka and soon my shyness subsided.

I hate taking drugs but yet I love it, when you find that magic pill let me know....please.

Oh and how does that Neurontin help and what specifically is it scripted for?

That statement alone makes me feel so much more strongly in favor of mandatory abortions.

I find opiates open me up socially, but not forceful like amphetamines... However most people do not find this, so take amphetamines if you want to use a drug for this... However, its not gonna be long term, and it will get to a point where you feel you cannot socialize without drugs..

I would go for an SSRI and if that doesnt work out throw a low dose benzo in, 5.mg xanax or less.

The only drug approved for Social Anxiety Disorder (S.A.D.:\) is Paxil, which is a SSRI and sucks if you ask me. Personally SSRI's never did anything but make me feel wierd and gave me sexual side effects.

Pot does NOT help me socially, maybe if I smoke a little bit but generally it makes me wayyy too paranoid and overaware of things. I used to be a pothead (at least 3-5 times a day for about 5 years), and I rarely smoke now, and feel 100X better in general.

I find that if you're in an environment where everyone's wasted and happy it takes a lot of the edge off and it's much easier to feel comfortable. Drinking alcohol helps too, gets you to loosen up and makes it easier to relate to people, but that's nothing new.

Hope that was of some help to you...

Have you tried klonopin. I got it presribed for social anxiety about a year ago, after trying Xanax and many SSRI's, and it worked great. It lasts for about 8hrs (double that of Xanax) and the feeling is just different, with much less memory loss. If you havent tried it I recommend you give it a shot. Otherwise opiates always seem to help my anxiety!

Yes, or DXM, but not a shitton. Amphetamines will make you outgoing at first, but after awhile you're become more introverted, always thinking more than speaking. Not a bad thing, if you're studying or are a hyper 5 year old kid (j/k).

"I want a longer term solution, i dont want stimulants or opiates."

then i don't think you'll find you're answer in drugs. in my experience, prescription antidepressents did nothing. street drugs work wonders but the effects don't last. i used to have the same problems as you, then i started smoking a lot of weed and stopped caring what anyone else thought about me and that made me a lot less shy.

Thanks for the replies. I am going to talk to my doc and see what he recommends, although many things he rx'd me sucked (like zyprexa and serzone which almost felt like i was tripping).

Neurontin (gabapentin) is an anti seizure medicine. Its method of action is not known but it binds to its own receptor. It lowers anxiety some and provides an almost stimulating (but some find sedating) mood boost. I think it is better than benzo's. And a combination of benzos and neurontin helps a good bit. Problem is, i have to take lots of it and it only lasts like 3 hours.

i agree there 100% i have this exact problem and when i started getting into doing amphetamines and alcohol i loved it cuz i was so friendly around people and i wasnt trippin all the time. before when i got high around people i was even quieter then when i was sober.

my advice to you would be opiates... ever try oxycontin? you feel so euphoric and have this "positive" energy that just makes you seem comfortable with your soroundings. makes me very social.

if you're not experienced in opiates, hydrocone did the same thing for me when i was a baby candy popper.

in my experiences, xanax has also worked very well in the anxiety department..

i think maybe all in all, you need to get over your self consciousness. maybe things about the past or present or maybe the way you look is why you're having these feelings. but the best answer if this is the case is NOT drugs. i would say counseling would be your best bet. or do things that are going to make you feel better about yourself overall. over time, you may see the problems dwindling, and hopefully eventually disappearing. i hope this helps you.:)

Yeah for anxiety I'd say Xanax or Valium. For shyness I would suggest you do amphetamines about 20mg or 30mg that will make you rush and bring back lots of confidence and intelligent thoughts for about 2-3 hours. This is all of course only for short term, like for various occasions where you don't want to be shy or anxuous..not for example not feeling anxious when your watching tv or something.

Oxy was something I was thinking about but opiates especially oxy can make you really irritable sometimes on them. Sometimes they even make you want to be quiet and away from conversation. So opiates might not be the best for anxiety...for pain yes..but anxiety...no.

I honestly find Opiates/Opiods the only cure for my semi-lifelong anxiety/depression.
More so for the depression than anything else but used long term the side-effects memic the pre-dose effects.

But I have done all types of benzos and only found them good when theres no alcohol, coming down from coke/speed, or wanting to be sedated.

I dont find benzodiazepines euphoric at all but Opiates on the other had are great!

You have several options.

First, you should see a psychologist, who will determine whether you need therapy, meds, or both. If you need meds, you will get referred to a psychiatrist. Oftentimes, however, therapy can be extremely effective for mild anxiety/depression/shyness.

If it is determined that you need meds, then personally I would suggest that you try some of the weaker ones like buspar and the beta-blockers (you can mention these to your dr) BEFORE moving onto heavier/more-side-effect-y SSRIs etc. Benzos are never a good solution because they cannot be taken daily (tolerance and dependance issues).
