Just wondering if anyone here has any knowledge of drug legalisation or liberalisation societies in Australia? I'm an advocate of drug policy reform and I'd like to show my support.
I believe that all drugs should be legalised and strictly controlled by the government, in the same way that tobacco and (to a lesser extent) alcohol is today. I believe that if drugs, including those of dependence, were dispensed by the government in strictly controlled and limited weekly doses, overall harm caused by drug use would decrease. This is because the substances would be pure and the dosages consistent. I also believe that people would not turn to the black market because they will always prefer to buy with guaranteed quality, availability and legal safety.
I also think that people are smarted than we give them credit for. In the same way that we aren't all alcoholics, I don't think people would immediately go out and become heroin addicts if it were legalised. The stigma would remain, but the uncertainties surrounding dosage and quality would not.
