I was doing Roxy 30mg for the past 1 and a half year about 120 mg a day..I recently stopped cold turkey and I'm almost a month clean. I don't feel any WD symptoms except being able to sleep...I have insomnia and I'm scared if I take benzos to sleep I could get addicted to them...any suggestions on how to sleep without taking other prescription drugs?

Exercises and cut down on caffeine during the day. Seriously i feel your pain i suffer from sleep delay pattern and i would sell a kidney to be able to fall a sleep with out needing meds

A physician would be able to prescribe a number of things that are non-narcotic and help with sleep if she felt it was appropriate for your situation. Remeron, [FONT=arial, sans-serif]mirtazapine, and trazadone are some that come to mind. Antihistamines like diphenhydramine and hydroxine are useful for some people. Melatonin might work, its OTC many places Another possibility is herbs like valerian root.

A physician would also likely recommend good sleep hygiene, like having a wind down period and using your bed only for sleep and not using tablets or other screens as your trying to sleep.

I can't remember the name of this operant conditioning technique, but one thing one of my rehab therapists suggested was to only use the bed for sleep or sex, if you're lucky enough to be having it, and during bouts of insomnia, just sitting in a chair and looking at the bed. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't but it's worth a try.

I use DPH at the same time every night, two hours before I go to sleep. The routine is just as important as the (cheap, non-addictive, otc) drug.

Diphenhydramine can absolutely create a dependancy and a withdrawal syndrome, it's activity within the brain is pretty complex and non selective, it has SSRI functionality as well. I don't feel that it is particularly good for you. I have been taking it for 10 or more years now and it's hard to stop.

I've tried pretty much everything on the market for sleep (except for ambien, after reading the horror stories), and the one thing that consistently worked has been a herbal mixture comprised of hops, blue lotus, sculcap and celandine which I found at a local headshop. I was shocked that this capsule of herbs (in fact I generally only need half a capsule) had me out every single time, with no hangover, while high doses of benzos or antihistamines would consistently fail. So shocked I actually did some research, suspecting the capsules contained a pharmaceutical ingredient, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

I don't know the ratio in which the herbs are combined, and it's sold at a local head shop so I can't provide you a link, but if you're so inclined you could order those herbs separately and try different combinations.

If I really need to pass out, I take a cold shower. I hate it, but it zaps all the energy right out of me
