Hi!
As many of you know (I hope (= ) I live in Mexico.
Right know the government is in permanent war with the drug cartels and dealers.
Every day people get shot and murdered, attacks with grenades, the police buying more automatic arms, etc.
U.S. programs like D.A.R.E.among others are being implemented, in Baja (with great success official numbers say), and Sonora (my state), and I don't know what other states.
The AFI (=FBI) and the Federal Police have merged into the Federal Police. The Army and Navy are deployed with the sole purpose of fighting drug cartels. They silently patrol the poor neighbourhoods in my city in the night.
At least I feel safe.
My dad, works in the government, in charge of the drug addictions program. He's old school, and won't ever mention "harm reduction" which I try to practice and believe in. Currently I'm seeing a Psichryatic which (thank God) has me on Lyrica, Clonazepam, Diazepam and Wellbutin. He's my 5th psichrytist, I'm starting t feel my dad wants off the drugs out of my sheer will power (going cold turkey). He's also a retired General. I'm not depressed, but my anxiety has got me into this. Including Bluelight, and I don't regret it.
I live in a highly conservative society, no matter what advances we make socially, politically or in the healthcare area (Free meds and insurace for everyone).
How to introduce new concepts into a highly conservative society, who only wants drugs to magically disappear one day?
It's even embarrasing to say that I see a psichyatrist, although it shouldn't be. I always say it's just a therapist for anger management or something.
Mexico produces drugs americans and canadians consume, and vice versa, which is no secrets and no one has the blame (maybe the consumers like me).
The change starts everywhere, and I feeel isolated.

Regards.

Lyrica, Clonazepam, Diazepam and Wellbutin? two long lasting sedative's a dopamine reuptake inhibitor (that some might call a mild stimulant), and drug that helps convert glutamate into gaba (which those sedatives enhance the action of)- what mixture. why do you require that much sedation?

when people are oversedated it doesn't solve the problem-maybe you are angry because you are watching your country slowly decsend into a state of instability and you feel powerless watching it slide.

that is FAR to many sedatives to be taking especially with a mild stimulant like wellbutrin (why would they give you this if you are experiencing anger problems).

real sadness cannot be blocked out with drugs-you need counselling, as your mind is weighing heavily. talking to a more experienced person about your feelings is more effective than drugging them into oblivion.

why FIVE psychiatrists, did you think this one would be different?

Maybe you're right, but my tolerance is sky hight.
And about my country, I don't feel it's getting worse, actually I feel it's getting a little better, but now that you mention it, I DO try not to hear the news or not to pay atention to what people is talking about, this week there has been 3 attacks with grenades in my city, the army from the nearby (4 miles) battallion has been deployed.
I guess I ignore the violence 'til it gets to my front door.
About the counselling, my dr. says he won't send me to the psychologist 'til "I'm emotianally stabilized". =s Perhaps I'll have to go myself.

EDIT- Oh, forgot to say, "his" plan was to get me into diazepam to slowly taper it down, then he added clonazepam for some [stupid] reason. And I grew tired of psychiatrists after the second, but continued after my dad insistance. It really affects him, he never shows it thought, so I do it mostly for him.

Regards!

the thing about benzodiazepines is that they alter the receptor shape to enhance gaba binding so tolerance to them rockets very very fast- you are wise to ignore the news as i find even here in england it exists to induce a sense of fear in everyone, keeping them on tenderhooks until the next spooky installment like a poorly written ghost story (that the population thinks is real)

parents never like it when their children have mental health issues

as for not being able to see a counsellor- in the uk they send you to a counsellor if you are NOT emotionally stabalized (it is thought if you were you wouldn't need one). sounds like you have a poor quality psychiatrist who simply peddles drugs.

go and book the psychologist/counsellor on your own initiative. they are good but you have to get one you like and connect with personally (much like friends). i would guess (accurately) you are quite clever and need something to stimulate your mind.

good luck! regardé (cant remeber if thats how you spell it-did spanish in shcool over 8 years ago)

Yeah, he's in a government center (very nice btw, it's brand new in the outskirts, maybe I'll send you pics one day) where they rehabilitate drug-adicts.
He's loaded with work: 2 doctors (him and another girl) for 1200 patients (200 inpatients). So they sent those 2 doctors from Mexico city. I live in Sonora, like 90km from the U.S. border (which I visit every know and then for shopping).
And they charge $150 pesos (around $1.35 USD) per consult, psychologist and psychiatrist.
So I'll definetily see an external psychologist, hell, my brother is a psychologist! But I'll keep going with the dr. maybe 'til he gets me off the Wellbutrin.
Thanks! And that's definetily french xD, means "to perceive".

Con Mucha Estima de México!
Gracias!

if they're overworked they wont have much time to think things out- if your on a course of wellbutrin best to see it through.

i never was any good at french- just making up pretend words like beaufeullé (buffalo)

good luck

Can't believe how cheap it is to see a doctor none the less a psych.

Wellbutrin why are you taking that its more of a shit ADHD med. try dexamphetamine heard much better results from that.
with people using grenades and civil unrest no wonder he scripted so many things though i still question it.
I am wondering is it likely to catch something at the doctors or can you get home visits like in the states? I love the states where a doctor brings out a bag full of meds and you get them right there on the spot.

Charles, I'm merely going to tell you my opinion.

The problem that Mexico has with drugs is the result of its failing infastructure. In short the U.S. has done it's best to keep things riled up in order to ensure dominance over Mexico and that region. Government leaders are usually no more than U.S. appointed "presidents".

If we really wanted to help mexico or anyone involved in drugs then we'd start with the source of 90% of the world's heroin: Afghanistan. Not by burning poppy fields which has been counter-effective, but by offering a legal and safe way for farmers to make enough money to live on, they grow opium becuase it's a means of survival, not a choice.

Then we have Columbia producing hundreds of tone of cocaine per year. This country is controlled or "in an alliance" by the U.S. In fact their's no way we'd ever try to stop the cocaine trade with the kind of money it brings to the C.I.A.

So heres the picture: World decisions are controlled by the few, powerful, and rich. They benefit off war and chaos in a financial manner, and they dont give a damn about anyone else.

Man the whole drug war is a joke
CIA uses it the DEA fights it. one army fights for drugs the other against.
poppies fund terrorist sometimes and sometimes for capitalism... sometimes for comunism.
sometimes for organised crime sometimes to fund covert op's
wars and been faught over the drug trade and army life's lost.
its all above most of our heads and the more i know the more it sickins me the lies and propagandah. it boggles the mind. i watch about 5 hours of doc's on it the toher day and it left me scratching my head i tried to explain and it was like an overload.
Drugs are not bad. religion, alcohol and governments have killed more people than all the drugs ever could. Least drugs get people high, kill pain, change perspective and so much more. The war of drugs was a cover for other conspiricity shit. I heard the US gives like 400 billion to columbia for all sorts of shit... all that crop spray well didn't cocaine crops increase by 14% so i did nothing just moved the plants up adn down the mountains.... Ah it makes me so made. legalise it i say. but i dont think the cartels would want that. drugs should never have been made illegal in the first place would have saved soo many lives and money. I mean smoking and drinking kills soo many people but thats legal... is it a problem? maybe but i think balance and the freedom of an adult to make up his own mind about what his does to his own brain... as long as he doesn't harm others... New years day coem dwon this is too deep and jibberish

Not sure exactly where to put this... moving to regional. :)

Whats it like in Sonora now that drugs have become decriminalized? I remember when Mexican drug laws were really punitive. Nice to see that the idea of harm reduction is catching on.

Maybe you can add to this thread on the front page of drugs in the media:

Drug Decriminilization in Mexico

TJ these days has become a big open air drug marketplace in many parts of that city.

I live in Sonora, like 90km from the U.S. border

Mexico eh, aside from the drugs you get prescribed how Are are the real drugs? like HEROIN and Cocaine. I heard that Mexico legalized simple possesion ( Im sure the the mexican cops still shake you down though) anyways....

Senor Ferdinand, My wife's family is from Arizona, and travel down to Puerto Penasco (aka "Rocky Point") which is the closest access to the Sea for the people of Tuscon and Phoenix (about 3.5 hrs). Anyway, my in laws rent a beach house or drive campers down there. It is now a Thanksgiving tradition for the last 6-7 years but they have been going down there for over 40 years when it was a much different place. When my wife was little they would camp out at Sandy Beach. Now its turning into a resort community for the well to do on both sides of the border.

It is a very beautiful place on the Sea of Cortez- in many ways in the fall reminds me of the Greek Islands during summertime- the wild barren landscape and warm sea .

According to them the drug violence there isn't too bad.

Thanksgiving 2006 I had a run in with the local police. I had kind bud for CA and my brother-in-law, his friend who is a transplant, and myself went in an offroading golf cart. We had been smoking buds in different spots, usually from elevated positions. This time, right before Thanksgiving dinner, Turkey finnishing in the fryer, we went for a pre dinner smoking session. We were in a place with alot of offroading. After smoking a couple of loads I saw a white SUV approaching from a mile away comming right at us. I threw the pipe in a bush. Anyway, the cops, who were minicipale police got out. They new what we were up to, probably had been watching us from binoculars. The frisked and cuffed all of us and found the loaded pipe by my foot- thought they were going to let us go. I was shitting my pants- images of the midnight express went through my mind. The friend who had been living there for over a year was telling them a bullshit story about how he was neighbors with the sherif or some other rediculous thing. They told me that they had to take me to jail to settle the ticket.

In the old days you would pay hundreds or thousands of dollar fines for a joint - or go to prison for a couple of years. I was pleading with them like a little girl. They took pity on me and let us pay the fine- only $30 which was all the cash we had on us. The cops were actually prety nice and kind of apologetic. Kind of like good nature security guards, not hard core overzelous cops you sometimes encounter in the USA and some of the federales I've seen on the train back from Mazatlan.

Anyway, they sent us on our way. I was shocked. My brother-in-law said they have had to deal with that all the time and the Governor of Sonora was even considering decriminalization a few years before this of la mota- this is a sharp departure. Most important, law enforcements attitude concerning the casual user has changed radically and a country that was noted for a hardline punitive stance on individual users and coruption with drug trafficking organizations getting carte blanche protection has taken a very enlightened approach.

By the way, though I hate the war on drugs, those cartels in Mexico are scumbags that have terrorized the local population. That is one of the few places that I see the antinarcotics police in a positive light and the military I am shocked to hear myself say it but some of these drug warriors are hero. There is a full scale war and they deserve props for tightening ranks and decreasing corruption- and the society is taking the pragmatic policy of treatment for users- although I don't know how they are going to pull it off with limited resources. They should really legalize it and tax it. Though the cartels would still have there Northern trade to keep them alive.

Finally, I was releaved not to have to go to the jail. It would have looked really bad to go to jail on thanksgiving to my then fiancee's dad- wouldn't leave a good impression. Dumbass that I am, after that whole ordeal- got local buds from the fireworks salesman on the corner for dirt cheap two hours later. Your typical scwag but was a good digestif after the spoiled aperatif.

What part of that beautiful state are you from and how is the war in your city.

Amount of Drugs to legally carry in Mexico

Hey! I'm from Hermosillo and currently live in Obregon, south of the state, Rocky Point is amazingly beautiful indeed, I went there in New Years Eve and there I decided to give up GABAergics. I took my last diazepam 3 months ago, and I'm feeling great!
It's like I finally woke up after a 5 years sleep.
So, they mordieron you x) they are generally very nice to tourists and americans, for they want them to come back and maybe get another "mordida".
They've catched several cartel leaders recently, and violence is defintely down.
I'm gonna post something interesting: some senator from Nuevo Leon, proposed 3 years mandatory military service for those who don't study and don't work.
Also, Decriminalization is a joke, if you they don't like you, they can still detain you for whatever amount of drugs you're carrying with you until they find out how much you have and if you don't have more. It's easier to just don't say anything or give them some money.
Here are the amounts you can carry with ya:
opium (raw, for smoking) 5 gr
heroin 25 mg
marihuana 5gr
cocaine 500mg
LSD .015 mg
MDA 200mg
MDMA 200mg
mescaline 1gr
peyote 1kg
psilocibin (pure) 100mg
mushrooms 250mg
amphetamines 100mg
dexamphetamin 40mg
PCP 7mg
Meth 200mg
Synthetic opiates 10mg

There are no benzos, barbs, or else because those are meds, and you only need to have the prescription.
I'd also like to note, that although they may or may not detain you temporarily they can not prosecute you.

The state of things in Mexico is terrible, and there is alot behind that - probably more than there is time to discuss in the world.
But I'm worried about you. As another poster mentioned, that is two strong tranquilizers and a very potent SNRI, as well as a GABAgeric which interacts with the benzos. Why the two benzo's? One for sleep and one for anxiety? That is generally bad practice - the best solution would be to go fully to diazapam or lorazepam for anxiety and sleep problems, especially when combined with an snri for depression. You really want to stick to one. Really. Please.
Lyrica is a questionable drug; some people feel alot, others don't feel much. If you don't feel much, but feel that it somehow is helping, I would urge you to get off it (the side effects are terrible; metal cloudiness, weight gain, lethargy, etc...) and try to work it out without it. If it made a major difference in your life, continue with caution.

I have been on all of those drugs at once, and can say that alot of it was me wanting a pill to cure problems that were about me or outside circumstances, things pills can't cure.
And they are nice for a while to numb the pain, but you quickly gain tolerance and then the situation is no better than an able-bodied man who has learned that he can only live if he uses a crutch.
Lastly, I know that your country is in turmoil, and ahving traveled throughout Latin America, I know that it is difficult, but not impossible to live through the circumstances you have been put in.

Lastly, here's a really good writer who grew up in Colombia during their drug wars and writes really witty stuff about growing up in Colombia, dealing with police and drug lords, cycling, punk rock, and how it all comes together. Cycling Inquisition
