"Davina McCall has provoked fury among anti-drug campaigners after she admitted telling her young daughter that heroin was 'fantastic'.
The Big Brother presenter, who battled drug addiction as a teenager, warned her eight-year-old that the substance was so good that users easily become addicted.
The 42-year-old mother of three said she hoped it would persuade her children not to use drugs as they grew up, claiming that she wanted an open and honest relationship with her family."

'"Recently, because of something on Radio 1, we had to have a drugs conversation. Holly asked me: 'What do they feel like?'

"If I told her that heroin didn't feel nice and then she tried it and it did, she'll think: 'Oh Mum was lying.'

"But if I say: 'Heroin is so fantastic you'll want to take it again, then you'll get addicted, which is horrible,' that's honest and more frightening."'

When I was little I was watching the news which covered a cocaine, I asked them why they did it if it was so bad. They told me people did it because it felt good but was ultimately bad for you.

I was concerned at the time that I'd never be able to score any cocaine. Thankfully a decade later my concern turned out to be unwarranted.

to me that seems a healthy relationship to have with your kids?! just because someone goes against the prohibitionist status quo why should they be demonized by the tabloid press. Davina seems to be a pretty rational celeb. More power to her!

Maryon Stewart, whose 21-year-old daughter, Hester, died last year after taking the dance drug GBL, is currently advising the government on how to educate children on the danger of drug use.

So Your child dies therefore that somehow qualifies you to tell other parents how to raise they're kids?

Massive respect davina.

As a child I always thought drugs like alcohol/cocaine didn't have positive effects--that people just did them to get "fucked up," whatever that meant. Indeed a quick look at almost any anti-drug site will list all the negative effects of drugs without bothering to mention any of the positive effects.

We can fly a man to the moon, but we can't be honest about the most basic realities of life.

I applaud the woman. I would do exactly the same with my children, albeit in a less glorifying manner.

Yeah you have to be honest about these things. Boy who cried wolf and all that. If you lie to children constantly about how drugs effect you, then they pop their first pill or do their first line and they have an amazing time, then they'll just think you lied about everything else as well.

If drugs didn't feel good, nobody would do them.

how D.A.R.E. she go against the tried and true system of flat out lying to kids about drugs?

There is absolutly nothing wrong with anything she said; seriously those people criticizing her are morons.

Iv'e heard several recovering addicts use pretty much that same statement when talking about their addiction on a talk show or something and nobody made a big deal out of it......... ever.

I must say dragynfyr, I LOL'd when I saw this %)

Props to this woman for raising her children with honesty instead of bullshit, I really have no idea why so many people have a problem with that? (Well obviously I do, but it just seems illogical with how far we've come with science and educational resources being so available to the general public.)

These anti-drug guys make me laugh... they act as if kids don't realize that people enjoy the effects of drugs. Clearly people aren't takig drugs to feel like shit...
