Methadone is free in New Zealand too, among other countries.

It's a thing called universal healthcare - a concept which most Americans don't seem to be familiar with. ;)
 
this is perfect for doc's

1) get paid more for "getting people clean" (well off legal opioids!)
2) less risk to their professional membership by prescribing that inappropriate drug dose or drug associated with a problem

hmm maybe I could be wrong, maybe the true doc's will still feel for the patient and ignore this and continue as before
