Drug addiction question

Hey all
Heres my basic story I've been on pain killers for about 2 years I've been on almost everything prescribed legally currently I'm prescribed 120mg of opana a day 20mg ER 3 times daily 10mg IR 6 times daily I sometimes take more and snort them like alot of us here do ive never had a drug problem hell I've never even smoked weed in my life I started these strictly for pain but now I'm horribally addicted to these pills physically and mentally my 3rd spine surgery is soon and this 1 should b the fix and they say I'll be weaned off the pills for 3 months now for my question I read alot of people who stop after a couple years of use have serious depression and they never feel the same or content again with out the meds so I want opinions will I go back to the chipper young happy guy I was before the pills or will I be a like screwed up after I'm off them

This is a possibility, yes, but because you were using the pills for pain management I think the chances of it happening are reduced. You may actually be happy because the pain is all gone and you don't have to take the Opana anymore.

It looks like you posted a similar thread about using Suboxone to taper down your Opana dosages....It's good to hear your doctor is going to be tapering you down slowly over three months.

If you noticed depression after tapering off the Opana, there are treatment options. Do a search on here for "PAWS" or "Post Acute Withdrawal Syndrome", you'll find many threads about people going through the same thing you (may) go through, and how to cope with it.
 
Thanx alot yea the dr assured me I'd be fine after all is said and done I just worry cause all people I know said the pills ruined there life
 
^Just because pills ruined their life doesn't mean pills will ruin your life.

Just be honest with your doctor when you're going through the tapering process. The fact that he's putting you on a taper at all is a good sign.
 
Tru well not yet in about a month after my surgery let me ask you while tapering is there any withdrawl
 
Not with a proper taper.

You may feel mildly uncomfortable for a few days after dosage drops, but given that you're tapering relatively slowly under the supervision of a doctor who sounds pretty compassionate, I doubt that you'll experience any significant withdrawal. At the end of the taper when you jump off you'll potentially experience some minor symptoms for a few days to a week, but so long as the taper is done well, you shouldn't experience much discomfort and should be feeling better than ever very shortly.
 
^Exactly. Your doctor will most likely explain the details to you in regards to the taper when he/she decides that it is the right time for you to taper off your Opana/oxymorphone.

Pills dont ruin everyones lives. Pills are used to deal with the pain & I actually find it as a blessing to have a pill to keep the pain at bay. If it werent for pain meds for alot of people, the pain itself would ruin their lives alone. Its a double edged sword!
