Drs appt was a fucking bust.. Dr acted like a nutbag

Went in there told her the morphine didnt work and also that it made me break out in hives and gave me headaches... which was fine.. She said I was having a mild allergic reaction to morphine so there was no need to be on it. Then she pushes the patch on me again. I tell her my concerns about the patch.. so She scripts me the patch (25mcg hr) and my roxis (15mg). But she doesnt listen to a thing I say... she said all pain patients wanted to do is get high.. I said if thats how she feels then she is in the wrong business..

She told me ALL of her patients are drug addicts and that all they want to do is get high. That if I didnt want to get high I would go on the patch because you cant get high on fent patches... WTF? So im about to leave the practice but I call the receptionist who has been super nice to me and she says she pulled the same shit with 3 other patients today the others left crying. She asked me to let it slide and come back next month. That the drs behavior was unprofessional and she should check her bullshit at the door.

My dr said she would refer me to a pill mill if that's what I wanted so I could get as much as I want or dont need, she said I would be in pain for the rest of my life and basically I had to deal with it. She said the roxi should cover it all... and wants me to try the fent patch regardless of my concerns about it. I am so goddamn pissed I cant see straight. Why is it wrong for someone to be concerned about a medication that kills alot of people?

Her receptionist said she was being ignorant and was in a bad mood. I understand drs are people too.. but seriously WTF? To call all of her patients drug addicts could tarnish all of her patients reputations and literally fuck them for the rest of their lives. But the receptionist said no matter what happens she will back me up as I have done nothing wrong and everything by the book and that its good that I am pro active about my treatment...

Blech so. What would you do?

That is 100% ridiculous. Basically she called you a drug addict to your face! I would find another doctor and when you do, tell them you switched because the previous doctor told you she was just another drug addict looking for pills. Doctors are supposed to be there to treat your specific needs, not to judge you and call you names. Seriously, FIND ANOTHER DOCTOR!

As for now, it looks like she wants you on a sustained release opiate with the immediate release for your breakthrough pain and that is never going to change. Since the MSContin didn't work and if the patch is too much for you, your other options would basically be Opana or OxyContin. I don't think she would give you OxyContin because you are already taking oxycodone. Opana may be your last option. From the sound of your doctor though I don't think she will switch you again. You need to switch docs...

By the way, what the hell is a Pill Mill?

Yea, she claims ALL of her patients are drug addicts and that's all they come there for... I don't know what happened.. if one of her patients ODed or what... she was talking crazy about the DEA and how tons of drs lost their licenses around here. A "pill mill" is a dr that will give you whatever you want.. she said she would refer me to one. Nice huh. All I want is reasonable pain management and I am getting bullshit. The patch is more expensive than the Avinza, got it filled today.. but whatever. I have called other drs and they told me to ask for my records for my personal files and then basically escape her practice.. LOL Jesus fuck why does this have to be such a pain in the ass? I have fucking had it with people today. Thanks for the replies and I will put the fent to good use.. lol

Go to the pill mill, the pill mill!!!! :0)

Kidding...sorry you had a rough time. Sounds like something happened with your doc, and it was totally unprofessional of her to take it out on other patients. I'm in agreement that you need to find a new doc, cuz even if her "mood" improves, it sure sounds like she's not going to be very willing to Rx you what you need/want.

Bummer!

Be careful with the fent!

Damn V, I hate to hear that. If you have a local paper you could always write an editorial about pain patients and how your dr said all they wanted to do was get high and how she called them all addicts. Also mention how she offered to send you to a "pill mill". I mean out her! Even writing the letter and not sending it might help you to feel better.

^^^editors write editorials, readers write letters to the editors. no matter that, it would be a catharsis to get it in the column and off his chest .

I am brand new here but thought I would share that I am very happy with the patch- I have a 12.5 (lowest dose) , changing every 48 hours as it ran out more quickly for me than for some, and with Norco for breakthrough I find it the best , even , consistent pain relief in my six years of chronic pain.

As far as I know they have changed the things that caused the deaths and there is no longer gel that can be obtained- the fent is in the adhesive and can't leak by accident

I should have said first- find another doctor ASAP. You need to be treated with dignity and compassion. That doctor is in the wrong business.

When you find a good pain management dr. I do thik the patch is worth a try.

Here's to pain control!

oh wow, what a lady. i think you gave the right response, telling her she is in the wrong biz...

fent, and roxies, have a much greater street value then ms... and are pretty powerful and dangerous on the street...

i have been wishing and neeeeding a doctor who would recognize and know that the patches are pretty impossible to abuse more then once, and easy to monitor.

i would contact the medical board of ethics, especially if you can rally a few people together, then switch. she needs to be sitting up front with the receptionist, or before her colleagues explaining her behavior as she loses her license. i would fear her slandering your record if you do find a legit, pain management doctor. if you did contact the board of ethics, they would/could see your chart, as is. i would also express concerns about her doing such a thing, and that she wanted to refer you to a "pill mill", can they suggest any, level headed docs?(of course they couldnt)

is she married?
if so, she probably had his balls in her pocket...

the dea probably did sweep through there, or someone overdosed.
the pcp ive started seeing recently had 1 patient get popped, and another O/D.
im guessing that they were both selling their meds for H and/or coke.
