THIS! I cannot believe that I forgot to mention how incredibly and unbelievably dangerous driving on benzos is. I'm almost tempted to say that it's worse than driving drunk; it isn't, of course, but may be on par with one another. I think that what makes driving on benzos so shitty is that you know just exactly how awful your driving is and you can't correct it no matter how hard you try... *hits the curb* guh!

In the name of harm reduction, I also feel obligated to make more of an effort to discourage others from driving under the influence. If you don't value your own life enough not to drive drunk (and honestly, as someone with very low self-esteem, I don't blame you if you feel this way...) at least value the lives of others enough not to drive drunk.
 
Almost all of us have stories of driving high and being OK, which makes it easier to justify. But, it just takes one simple mistake to really hurt someone or simply screw yourself over with a DUI charge. I was once charged with a DUI for getting pulled over for a brake light or registration (can't remember) while driving a friend to the ER who had overdosed. Still got charged even though I didn't make any moving violations and was trying to save my friend's life. My point is, cops really love to give out DUI's and actively look for the signs. If only to save your own ass, just don't do it.
 
i really am better at driving when im stoned though. i am way more careful, and think ahead and focus. when im sober, i speed a lot and take a lot of risks.
 
It is generally a pretty bad idea to drive under the influence. I'd make an exception for moderate dosages of clean stimulants. (i.e. amphetamine and methylphenidate) but only if you are 'freshly' high... I.e. you have had adequate sleep and food the day before, not during a binge. My argument for this would be that someone on ADHD medication is generally not prohibited from driving by either the law or by the advice of their physician. (Well I'm not anyways)

Everything else is a bad idea, esp benzo's and psychedelics.
 
Drove candyflipping once...Never again.
However, I do love riding in the passenger seat on pretty much anything. :D
 
This thread makes me shudder, even though I am guilty of it myself. But to think you are "getting good" at driving while high is such horseshit. If we're going to be pragmatic then driving stoned is probably not so bad, driving on stims is not bad.

Driving on benzos or opiates is a fucking horror show and when you're on them you don't have the sense not to drive. I would never consider driving drunk but boy I didn't even hesitate to drive on benzos. I'm so thankful I'm alive and even more thankful I didn't kill anyone. During my lost benzo weekend I was driving home from my psychologist and I was lucky enough to be pulled over by a sympathetic cop (yes, they do exist). He let me call my dad and get a ride back home instead of giving me a DUI.

It's not just your safety that's at risk. You can completely destroy an entire family. It's something you can never attempt to fix or take back.
 
I must admit these days I still sometimes drive when slightly over the alcohol limit. I used to drive off my face every day pretty much. About 4 years ago I had 2 car accidents whilst on extremely high amounts of benzos. One time I lost where I was going, apparently fell asleep at the wheel on the freeway and almost hit a tree while speeding. I ended up in a police station a few hours later, but god only knows how I wasn't drug tested. I never want to drive when that much under the influence again, and don't recommend it to anyone. Even if you think you're "getting better" at driving wasted all the time. Thats what I used to think too.
 
Last Monday I couldn't keep my eyes open very well after shooting some dope, kept swerving down the highway lane-to-lane. Some guy behind me videotaped the whole thing before I rear ended a guy I never even saw. A sharp recoil woke me completely :/
I've driven a lot of times I shouldn't have, starting at age 17, having been on the road at all less than a year or two. I really can't believe I kept my car mostly in tact as long as I did (3 years). I also got in a wreck I almost don't remember on Ambien. Driving on that shit is the fucking worst.

But I've finally realised how stupid it is.
 
i've driven on a lot of drugs...weed every day, coke, mdma, lsd, 2c-i, 4-aco-dmt to name some of the more intense experiences. I never felt as out of control/dangerous driving on any of those substances than I do when I drink alcohol and drive.

Wow...good god....

THe only thing i can drive on is any type of amphetamine or opiate. Anything else is way too risky...

I would just like for everyone here to take a second to truly understand the gravity of the situation, the seriousness of making the decision to drive under the influence. If you haven't seen the thread already:

I'm not proud of it, but I've driven on just about every psychoactive chemical I've done and here are my conclusions...

Driving Stoned...is okay...as long as you have developed a tolerance and normalcy of being stoned has set in... (e.g. it's not wise for me to drive stoned anymore because I don't smoke on the regular...)

Driving on non-narcotic prescriptions is okay as long as you are taking them in therapeutic or low recreational doses...and don't be a smartass and say that DXM is considered non-narcotic...(I personally have to take 400mg tramadol, 30 mg flexeril, and 2400mg gabapentin and feel completely sober when on these medications at these doses).

Driving on certain narcotic prescriptions THAT ARE PRESCRIBED TO YOU (if people are rx'ed oxycontin at a certain dosage and are actually taking their medication as opposed to diverting it, they probably don't get high from their medication and are actually better on the road than they would be without them and withdrawing).

Driving on stimulants (that don't also have psychedelic properties to them (i.e. MDMA, MDA)) as long as you're not doing so sleep deprived/without food...

Psychedelics: generally a bad idea, but if on very minute doses, it can happen if it truly needs to...

Drinking: there's a fine line between acceptable and unacceptable...I say as long as your no further than "in between buzzed and drunk" it's okay, if you know what you're doing...

Benzos: definitely a bad idea if not being taken in therapeutic doses/aren't used to them...some people have to take them daily; therefore, they pretty much have to learn how to handle themselves on them or else their Rx is pointless anyway...

Sedatives: fuck no...

That's all I can really think of off hand...so there's my views...basically...
 
I live in Melbourne, Australia and here there is occassionally roadside drug testing which tests for cannabis, methamphetamine (presumably all amphetamines, I know one dude who failed for dexies) and MDMA which is conducted sometimes at booze buses/drink driving breathalyzer set ups. I really don't agree with these because they test for drugs even once they have wore off and that is total bullshit, however I do think it is wrong to drive at a certain level of impairment and there should be some penalties for it if you are caught.

I am on the fence with some things, like personally I don't think cannabis affects my driving at ALL, but I smoke it every single day and have done so for a number of years, someone with no tolerance to cannabis clearly should not be allowed to operate a motor vehicle under its influence and that brings about a tricky situation in determining who is allowed to do it and who is not. I also think that reasonable doses of stimulants don't really affect ones driving, but once sleep deprivation comes into it then its another matter entirely.

I have to fess up to the fact I have driven under the influence of many different drugs on many occassions. I used to be terrible for getting blackout tanked on hard liquor and/or benzo's (primarily xanax) and driving, honestly sometimes I wonder how I never hurt or killed anybody. I have really wised up to it a lot and I don't as a general rule drive when I am messed up. I will drive when I am stoned or if I am using meth, sometimes I will still go around the corner after a handful of drinks but never long distances and I never drive properly drunk anymore.

Overall it is a real complicated issue and while I think there are a number of situations that certain people can drive fine on certain doses of certain drugs, the overwhelmingmajority of the time it is a real bad idea.

those are people's lives you're playing with.....

killing someone else is a much worse thing than killing yourself

i wonder how you're gonna feel when you lose your game and hit a little kid....

I'm sure he'll have quite enough time to think about how he feels about it when he's charged with vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated...
