Driving High

In the name of harm reduction, I just can't recommend driving on any mind altering substance. Weed is probably one of the less risky drugs to drive on, at least for seasoned users, but since all driving carries risk, sober is the only way to go.

Whatever you do, if you value your clean criminal record, don't toke in a car, even if you're not the one driving. Law Enforcement agencies have even admitted they get most of their marijuana arrests from motor vehicle stops. Yes, it's fun and badass to take a toke n' cruise. But it gives a false sense of security and privacy, and statistically ups your chances of getting caught astronomically.

If you absolutely MUST drive stoned or while carrying weed, carry it in your trunk, hidden, and pop a breath strip.

i find it incredibly easy to drive when im drunk maybe easyr then stoned! but the only difference is when drinking you have an urge to put your foot down and speed. when stoned ur paranoid so you drive slower

for the record i don't recommend doing neither

I drive so much more safely when I'm driving high than when i am sober. I go the speed limit and am aware of every possible dangerous situation. When i am sober i am always at least 15 mph over the speed limit and am very agressive.

BUSTED: The Citizen's Guide to Surviving Police Encounters

A car is one of the stupidest places to smoke. Just do it in private.

As for advice about actually driving high, I cannot really say. I have no experience with it. Obviously, have a sober person drive if possible, or better yet, just ride your bike! Riding a bike high is great. :)

First off, no one should be driving while under the influence.

But...let's be honest - marijuana smokers are going to do it regardless.

So, what are some tips or advice you have to protect yourself (and others) when driving under the influence?

Let's be honest, people who go to bars are going to drive home drunk, people on prescription drugs will drive fucked up.

Let's not make tips or advise, just do not get behind the wheel intoxicated, end of story.

^ I'm only carrying the banner of harm reduction, dude. Don't blame the messenger. Of course you're free to do what you want, as long as you live with the consequences.

a thing said:

Fuck yeah!

when i drive on something, it makes it seem like im in a game and the only thing that matters is to pay attention to the road.. i forget where i am going though a lot if i am super high lol, ill miss every turn and keep going straight

I'd agree with Vectra. Driving while drunk is easier cause you're not all paranoid and shit. You're just cruising and having fun. (That's how I would be at least.) But after driving while intoxicated (alcohol) a couple times, I realized how stupid it was to be doing that. Same as driving while high/stoned. But at least if you get pulled over when you're high you can pull (acting sober) better than drunk, especially if your breath smells of alcohol. (Breathalizer = done).

My tips are don't drive high, even though I used to do it. If you get hungry, think before you smoke! Go grab some McDonald's before you head over to your smoke spot. That way you can smoke, grab a cheeseburger from the microwave, and pass out.

It's different for everyone. When I first started driving high I thought I was doing really bad and looking at all the cars around me, now i'm fine.

never drivin high but i aint got my licence yet either and im 20 lol to paranoid to get behind the wheel

driving drunk for me was more like i was on a roller coaster, everything was just so simple, and everything felt like someone sprayed wd-40 on everything. id say driving drunk/high are the same for me, neither are hard at all and actually enjoyable

i second this
good post mdao

I don't get this whole continuously checking your mirrors while driving high. I've been driving high since the day I got my licence and never once got paranoid that the cops are around. Just be cool and chuck them the deuces when they drive by!

haha thanks for all the posts so far.

Concentrating on the road in front of you instead of freaking out and constantly checking your mirrors is a great tip.

I was looking for something such as - drinking coffee before doing so? Gets rid of being drowsy and makes you more alert.

wow. this is fucked. "HOW TO DRIVE UNDER THE INFLUENCE"

how about dont drive. take a cab.

this isn't really a guide how to drive under the influence. and I did state at the start of the thread that no one should do it. However, whether it's wrong or not; people are going to be driving high.

Some people drive better while high; some people are just atrocious. Here's my advice...

Make sure you're a good driver to begin with. Anyone who has driven less than a year and thinks they're a good driver doesn't know crap. There are subtleties to driving, not just laws, and you have to learn and master before you should drive while high.

And to the passengers: PLEASE, don't get in the car with someone if you don't feel comfortable with them driving while high. I care too much about you.

Personally, I drive just fine while high, because even though my reactions may be delayed (because I'm pretty sure it's been tested,) I notice things I might have to react to MUCH sooner than when I'm sober; I can see cops and dangerous drivers much further away because I'm more aware of my surroundings (not paranoid though.)

All in all, I don't condone driving while high, let alone driving WHILE smoking, but sometimes it's the only option, and it's best to do it safely if at all.

I love you all.

i can not drive while really stoned. i usually wait till i'm sober "enough" (2~4+ hrs after) the best way is focus on the road and not acting stupid. being a daily toker, i've used to the feeling but i'm always careful/pay attention while driving.

few years ago on april 20th, my friend who was baked out of his mind (5+ joints) decided to drive while i was in the passenger side. after driving a bit, he bumped into some old dude's car while switching lane. my life flashed before my eyes as i recall the last moment before impact. we were fine but his car's front end were toast. it ruined my high as i must've smoked at least quarter oz.

im the same way - if i have to drive, i make sure its about 2 - 4 hours after ive smoked. that way its more of a come down.

as far as switching lanes - i try to avoid this as much as possible

I drive much safer when im stoned and dont feel impaired even in the slightest, i take a lot less risks and usually stay under the speed limit.
Driving sober tho, completely different story :P
What about people who are prescribed amphetamine, is that ok to drive on?
If not then what about caffeine?
Being stimulants surely these would increase awareness and reaction times hence being safer to drive on than being sober?
Any thoughts on this?

well i cant drive yet and i smoke weed .

But i wouldnt reccomend driving high , as it may kill you

When your high your reactions are slower and your all dopey and stuff . And obviously driving can be dangerous like that .

But on the other hand being high is fun . . . .

whoever said marijuana is a hallucinogen is retarded. i would drive while stoned and never expect to see a hallucination. i would never drive on acid, however, because i would probably hallucinate. marijuana, in EXTREME doses, might be slightly hallucinogenic but no one who uses it would ever consider it to be a true hallucinogen. in six years of smoking, ive never had a true hallucination on marijuana. that's just more anti-drug propoganda bullshit. lets be real, at least.

there is very little research against marijuana and driving. almost none of the studies against marijuana and driving controlled their data to ensure ONLY marijuana was present in the drivers' system. Very few trials have been performed to evaluate marijuana alone on driving, but most have had promising results. Here's one:

Although I can understand the fear of having people drive while on anything, we need to realize that coordination is not significantly affected by smoking pot. anyone who is stoned can likely stand on one foot or recite the alphabet-- and it's easy.

Let's stop being afraid of everything and generalizing "recreational drugs = bad driving". They're two separate issues, and need to be treated accordingly.
