Drinking and Methadones

I know drinking while on methadones may cause death. It's happened to a friend of mine a couple years ago, but is it alright to drink the day after taking methadones? Would it depend on the time you took the drug the day before? I don't drink, but I know a friend who takes methadones, but drinks quite often.

The half life of Methadone is up to 36 hours, I HIGHLY advise not drinking before the half life is over.

If I remember correctly methadone and alcohol is one of the worst combinations for your body.

I'm not advising you to do this, but during my 2 year maintenance program, I was at 180mg a day in the morning, and every night, I would drink at least an 18 pack along with some hard liquor.
Of course, this wasn't the proudest time in my life, since I'd be falling asleep standing up, and walking into walls at work, along with waking up in my car in the parking lot of the local bar, not knowing what went on the night before.
My girl at the time told me on numerous occasions that I was "breathing funny" in my sleep, and she had to hit me to get me to "breathe right." (Real winner.)
Anyway, don't do it, it's not worth it.

BTW, Methadones half life is greatly variable, depending on either chronic/ acute ingestion....

Just had a friend take 6 10mg methadones and drank a 6 pack, with an alright tolerance and he ODd, had a heart attack and nearly died because it took the ambulance 30 minutes to get to his house even though the rescue station is less than 5 mins away. He's still in the hospital in ICU, but he's doing a bit better now than he was yesterday and the night before when it happened. Head the warnings, methadone's no joke.
