Hi, everyone!
First off, I just want to say I wasn't sure where to post this question, so I'm sorry if this isn't the right place.
But I'm just curious, has anyone on here who has gone through benzodiazepine withdrawal been able to drink in moderation again?
To add some background, I was prescribed 0.5mg Klonopin in May 2011 for anxiety. I started tapering off in April/May 2012, but it didn't work with Klonopin, so I crossed over to 10mg Valium in September 2012 and finished on November 14, 2012. The withdrawal was really horrible and by far the scariest thing I've ever gone through in all my 20 years, but the worst was over by January, and while I'm still having occasional symptoms, I'm feeling almost completely better. Just a couple more months and I think I'll be 99% healed!
And before you answer, just know that I've never been an alcoholic, so I'm not worried about forming a new addiction. The thing is, I'm a college student majoring in German and Russian, so there's a few social downsides to not being able to drink. First, I'm in college, and what am I surrounded by? Alcohol. I hate going out with friends and not being able to hold a cold beer in my hand. Second, I'm a German and Russian major. What are two huge parts of those two cultures? Beer and vodka. Plus just relaxing after a long hard day with a cold beer or a glass of wine is just really nice in and of itself. I just want to know I don't have to feel like a social outcast for the remainder of my life.
Thanks!
