Hey all, I am going to a massive at the end of June, and it will be my second time rolling. I am super-paranoid about the health effects and don't want to do it too often in the future, so I kind of want to make the most of this time coming up.

Sooo, I was wondering: What are your thoughts on dressing up or wearing some sort of costume for an e-trip? When I was at a big concert a couple months ago I saw some people dressed up, mostly girls. And there was one person who had this really cool costume, it was sort of a haz-mat-themed psychedelic kind of outfit--really cool. And my friend and I had this whole discussion of like people's "e-personas," and how they express them through their costume and dress while rolling.

I kind of want to dress up. But, being inexperienced, I don't know whether it's worth the effort? Whether it makes the experience any more fun, socially or otherwise? Also, context: I am male. Is it normal for guys to dress up? I mean besides drag.

I feel like it would be really fun! My idea is a mime, but instead of black and white the stripes would be like white-neon green-white-blue-white-neon green-etc on one side, and then maybe black-[bright color]-black-[other black color]-etc on another side. And so on with the sleeves.

If I could only give you one peace of advice, I would say:
the less clothes you have on, the better!
It seriously gets hot, especially in some of the smaller, more crowded raves I've been to.
At this one massive last year in southern california on halloween,
I saw this guy dressed in a giant furry animal costume.
His costume felt really amazing to touch, and was really plush.
The problem was that this guy was drenched in sweat, just standing in line.
I can't imagine how bad rolling in such a costume like that must be, especially when water costs like $3 for a small bottle, and you are pouring sweat.

Normally most guys wear really light shirts or no shirts, + some candy cuffs
Unless they are dealing (to hide the x better), this is the best outfit for a rave as it gets hot!

I see a lot of girls dressed up verrry elaborately and they love it- I personally prefer to be dressed in clothes that are as simply to take off (bathroom!) as possible, and won't leave me with my nipple or a butt crack hanging out (LOL!)...rolling is such a personal thing, and you've done it once, so you have to go with what you feel comfortable with and your own instincts.

Wearing a costume is fun whether or not you're rolling. :D I say go for it!

(I realize this is going to sound dumb, but I wear a pair of cat ears whenever I go to a rave...I figure it makes it more fun for other people, heh.)

Lol....

A lot of the parties i go to are themed, and costumes are encouraged.....

There is going to be a party at some point along the idea of no pants allowed.... I plan to just run around in a lab coat and a face mask....

For a while i had a furry little vest in my car.....

RGB, they aren't mine but i also found a pair of cat ears in my car....

Stop caring what other people think and just be as crazy as you want to be.....

I want to dress up elaborately one of these days....I just haven't found my e-persona yet.

Right now I just wear lots of kandi and clothes that are easy to dance in. I am dressing up quite elaborately for a halloween event this year.

duh costumes are awesome, all the time, end of story.

i modify the weirdness of my costume to the venue: strange clothes for shows, normalesque costume for festies, really weird shit for the burn. wear whatever you want. layerable costumes where you can take off and put on individual pieces allow you to adjust to different temperatures.

Dress up like Johnny Depp's version of Hunter S. Thompson from "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" and you will make friends :)

Just remember to keep saying "We can't stop here, its bat country!"

i wear costumes as often as possible, hell even when i'm not at a party! i just make sure to wear something that is light and covers as little skin as possible. one can wear a costume and still be almost naked! it's all about the accessories.

dress to undress! that's my motto.

I looooove costumes. Just remember not to let it get to pricey, because at a rave it will break/get very dirty. But usually, costumes are a great way for people to both show their inner personalities AND provide a conversation starter at the same time. And since many raves are anything-goes fashion wise, they're a great place to show off.

My favorite thing so far to wear while rolling is my full body, fleece giraffe pajamas... but I can only wear them when it's cool and I only wear them to house parties that I can sit on the ground and not get dirty or take it off and stow it safely. But I love them because they turn me into a giant stuffed animal and they're super cute and comfy.
