Since I started undertaking psychedelic exploration 8 or so years ago I've had a number of dreams during which I take psychedelics and experience their effects. As dreams where one takes drugs are common with people who use any type of drug are fairly common, I would assume a number of you guys have experienced this as well.

The effects from these "dream drugs" sometimes carry over into my waking state if i awake during the dream for 10-30min of consciousness. Pretty cool... anyway, there is some variability in the effects, so to speak, but one visual effect that I've had from these dreams is one I'm unfamiliar with from use of a wide range of psychedelics (lsd, shrooms, dmt, many 2c-x's, mescaline, 4 sub trypts, salvia, thujone, DOI, mdma, mda, etc). Another odd thing about this effect is that while dreaming, the effects are usually at least somewhat different each time, but when I awake, they meld into a particular effect.

When I awaken, my vision is usually blurred and i feel disoriented for a moment until i remember the dream and realize whats happening, never uncomfortable, just a bit confusing. Anyway, as my eyes adjust I see a grid pattern of discs that are almost transparent, but each disc contains most of the visual distortions i'm still seeing. There is a bit of a "swimmy" effect between the discs, but inside them things are twisting and turning all around like mad.

Anyone else have similar effects or dreams of this nature? Does the mental state ever extend into consciousness?

I've had quite a few dream drug experiences in the past. Mostly MDMA and cannabis. The effects in the dream are exactly the same. It kind of interests me because most of my dreams are really trippy if I haven't taken a substance in the dream, but when I do the dream leading up to that will be pretty similar to real life. Or perhaps it IS weird, but because I consider it to be reality I consider my surroundings to be normal beforehand. They mostly occur during lucid dreaming, I've found. Interestingly enough, I had a dream about smoking weed before I ever actually smoked and once I took it up I noticed the effects I'd had in the dream had been dead on.

Recently I quit drinking and so have been having frequent alcohol dreams where I'll drink a lot, feel very drunk, black out and then 'wake up' in the dream and not remember much and feel like shit. As I'm waking up for real I'll feel incredibly sick and hungover until maybe a minute or so after I've properly come round.

You mentioned this happening in lucid dreaming, snolly - do you mean that in a lucid dream you decide to take a drug (knowing it's all a dream), and you get the effects? I've heard of these kind of dream trips before (never had one myself that I recall), and I've wondered if they could be accomplished in lucid dreaming, or if the knowledge that one was dreaming would preclude the possibility of tripping in dreams. If not, I might have to start working on lucid dreaming through effort/training - it seems like it could basically be a source for free trips.

Yeah, pretty much it's a conscious decision, or as conscious as you can get while asleep! Though I'm still sort of practising lucid dreaming it's very much achievable. It doesn't happen so much in dreams where I'm not taking control, but it has done in the past. A lot of them are semi-lucid, I think.

Lucid dreaming is mucho fun regardless of tripping, but it's definitely attainable.

Craving dreams are quite common when people stop using a substance. I remember the crazy ass dreams i used to have when i quit drinking a bottle of liquor every day and doing blow constantly... that was some crazy shit. But given that my (and most people's) use of psychedelics is at least somewhat sporadic makes me feel that these "psychedelidreams" are something entirely different. Also, the psychoactive effects from my non-psychedelic drug dreams cease almost immediately upon waking, whereas they linger for quite a bit longer with the psych's.

i had a dream last night, my friend gave me more acid than i had ever had before, and because of the high amout of acid i took, i couldn't tell if it was a dream or a though that i couldnt escape from.

Odd how it's the other way round for me, maybe because I've relatively little experience with psyches? Most of my drug-dreams revolve around MDMA though I have had one or two shroom ones. Something I'd like to research further but it's kinda hard!

Psychedelidreams is a great term, btw :D

I think the only real oneirogen I tried was Calea (dream herb), you're supposed to drink the tea days in a row for it to work and sure enough after (I vaguely recall) 4-5 days I experience a totally wild dream. Can't really say how it went but it was trippy as shit whereas I am normally not able to remember any dream, especially when I smoke dope regularly. I'm also not the type to have even remotely unsettling dreams let alone nightmares, this was was neither but wild, it was.
I was satisfied with my experiment, it was interesting but hardly enjoyable like actually tripping awake.
So I discontinued.
Also I was lazy, content with it and the Calea tea tasted bitter. Often I threw in other herbs like catnip, absinth root (whatiscalledagain?), blue lotus, passionflower...
But I really don't think the reason the Calea worked was because that night I used some special concoction. It just takes time to really kick in.

ive had a couple acid and i think E dreams... after first trying coke/crack i had those dreams for almost a year even though i wasnt using it :S obvious sign, which i luckily took, to not touch that fuckin stuff..

The secret.. is.. your hands!

Look at your hands.. as soon as you see your hands in a dream it becomes so much more real and probably lucid.

An old hippy told me this and sure enough.. as soon as i saw my hands in a dream it became more vibrant and real and i felt like a super hero xP

What is strange is that your hands in a dream look strangely similar to your hands on high doses of mushrooms. that sort of semi transparent under skin movement thing going on..

very cool.

dam i used to have some amazing dreams. amazing. havent been so crazy recently xD

A few hours after talking to someone about how MDMA is lame by itself, I went to bed. In the dream, I took MDMA, and was very distressed because I had taken it recently, felt like a hypocrite, etc...

Then I woke up relieved, knowing I wouldn't have done something like that without thinking in real life.

Um I may have misunderstood the point of this thread, is it not oneirogenesis by herbs and the like?

Well Ive gotten more than once dreams in which I tripped or did drugs otherwise, I'm most always impressed with the effects, I think I tend to remember the dream better but I'm like never disoriented when in bed or with visuals unless something is actually in my system.
There can be exceptions as ever, but I feel like I have a good grip on my identity (though my ego is softened), sense of reality and state of being. That doesn't change when I go to sleep, hence no weirdness in the night.

That certainly falls under the broad umbrella of things I was refering to, but I was mostly curious as to whether anyone else experiences residual psychedelic effects from dreaming, with or without the aid of oneirogens. Without is a bit more interesting as it delves into the mind's ability to replicate a drug state sans drug.

Last night I dreamed I had a fair few sheets of LSD. Ate a couple, yet it became obvious after a few hours they were bunk. I'm sort of wondering why that was, whether in my mind the set wasn't right (felt ill in the dream) and I couldn't handle a trip or whether my experience with LSD isn't enough that my mind could decide how to proceed.

Weirdness.

I smoked some 5meo dmt in my dream about a week ago. Odd, cuz I've never done it in my waking life. It started pulling me towards formlessness pretty quick, but I woke up shortly after that.

I had a dream that I drank ayahuasca and started having crazy hallucinations.
