Opioids Dr wrote me a script for Norco and faxed another one to the pharmacy, can I fill both

I got in a motorcycle accident and didn't do much damage, just banged up my knee. He faxed my local pharmacy a perscription for 10-325 hydrocodone (30 tabs), but also printed me out a copy of the script just in case they didn't get it. The one he faxed over worked and I picked it up yesterday. But now I am left with a perfectly good script for the same thing...

My question is can I fill the printed script at another pharmacy and not get hassled by the DEA or something like that? I'm going to another state for a few days to visit my grandparents and I thought I'd try to fill it there. Worst case scenario, insurance doesn't pay for it right? What do you think will happen?
 
I won't encourage you to do something that could get you in trouble, but I will give you my knowledge on the subject:

I have an alprazolam prescription (30 x 1mg x 6 refills) which I get twice per year. I usually fill this at CVS pharmacy. I forgot that I had one refill left and went back to the doc to get a new Rx. I was only given one paper Rx (due to my prescribing physician being out of town that day) and told to come back before that ran out.

I remember, upon leaving the doc, that I still had one left to be filled from my old Rx. I called the CVS and had it filled, then attempted to drop the new Rx off at another location just to see. They were aware that I had just called in the other Rx and said they couldn't fill one again at that location until one week later due to insurance. No further hassle.

I took my Rx then to a Walgreen's. The lady there was able to fill it, but had to "call in a cancel order" on the fill at CVS. I can still pick that one up, just need to wait a week. No further hassle.

So, I experienced no issues other than a slight look of disapproval from some Indian asshole intern pharmacy clerk at the first CVS. Of course, alprazolam is a Schedule IV substance, but I live in one of the strictest states (they use a statewide controlled substance alert system) and had no issues.

I would fill both if I were you, but put 7 days between picking up the first and filling the one on paper. Also use two different pharmacies - apparently Walgreen's and CVS' network are NOT linked.

TL;DR: Put seven days between each fill. Do it at different pharmacy chains, and claim ignorance if anyone gives you shit. Can't really get in trouble for filling an Rx your doctor gave you, unless the DEA already doesn't like you for some reason.
 
^Its very easy to get in trouble doing exactly that, in fact. Its a good way to get labeled a drug-seeker and can really limit your future options for medical care when it comes to controlled or abusable substances.

OP: We're not a legal forum, but if you're asking if doing that is legal? No, it isn't. Can you get away with it? Maybe, but its really not worth the risk (that being limiting your future medical care at the least.)
