So back in 22 i had 7 compression fractures in my back (i have REALLY bad bones) dr put me on 2mg of hydro a day..... last week as i was leaving his office he said, we need to do something about those pain pills your taking, but we can talk next time.

I honestly dont know if im addicted, ive gone 3 days with out one & felt sore but ok. Im also a senior with a torn hip ligament, & arthritis. :cautious: they deff take the edge off & i dont see what harm they are doing? what should i do? ask to take half a tab..or a different drug thats not so addictive?...is there such a thing (that works)
any ideas?

man that's a rough one. tell me more about it..
are you in pain without taking it? you said you were sore but was it sore enough to bother you? is it enough pain that if you didn't take something, you would have trouble functioning?

I can function ok, UNLESS i am walking more than 30 mins, running errands, going up & down stairs..I volunteer one day a wk & couldnt do it without the meds...etc. i wake up in pain every day which really affects my mood. so yes i can function, it sucks to be taken off something that helps me but i will know more in dec when i see him....I guess i will be using my heating pad alot more.

Honestly, hydromorphone is quite safe if taken as prescribed and in my case it worked much better for pain than oxy or morphine.

If he want to quit your prescription, he should at least offer you weaker opioid/opiate agonist.
Maybe dihydrocodeine SR + tramadol as needed ( combination of dhcodeine decent opioid painrelief with decent O-DSMT mu opioid agonism + snri + sri effects could help you with your pain and your doctor won't need to stress about prescribing something so potent as hydromorphone.

Combination of lower potency opioids with one of them being multimodal painkiller should work. If not immediately, after your tolerance will get lower.
The problem is with tramadol u cant use more than 100mg as a single dose and dihydrocodeine maximum 120mg two times per day. But 240mg dihydrocodeine with 400mg tramadol will definitelly provide relief ( if u are at least usual cyp2d6 metaboliser ).

For me, ultrarapid cyp2d6 metaboliser is tramadol 100mg actually much more potent than 10mg of oral morphine and it also lasts almost 3 times longer.

There is also possibility he will offer hydrocodone or oxycodone.
Try hydrocodone ( it is more closer relative to hydromorphone ) and if it won't work for u, try other options. There is A LOT of opioids of many different potency/dosage ratio to choose from.

Don't be scared the weak ones are shit - they are actually pretty good u just need to use different dosage and be able to metabolize them to active metabolites.
