Doxepin and alcohol?

So my psychiatrist prescribed me Doxepin 25-50 mg for insomnia. She refused to give me ambien or any benzos and I was very much against taking an antidepressant for sleep, because they've never helped me before in that department. I have horrible insomnia and just want something to knock me out. So at first she gave me seroquel, which is probably the most awful thing ever. Made me feel like a tired zombie the next day. I called her up and said I want something else so she gave me Doxepin, a tricyclic antidepressant. To my surprise, it seems to be mildy helping my insomnia. However, I can't seem to find a straight answer to whether or not I can drink on it. When I say drink, I mean get hammered. I'm in college for god's sake. My psychiatrist is impossible to get ahold of and I've asked several pharmacists about it and they all weren't really sure. Is this a safe combo? Do they have synergistic effects?

On the record, no it is unwise to use TCAs and booze together. Off the record, you are much safer than if you had a benzo or ambien and thinking moderate use isnt an issue. Those days you get really smashed, I just let the booze do its job and skip the doxepin, though.
