Okay I have been on gabapentin for over a year. I started out fine but up until the end which is just these past few weeks I started to take high doses of gabapentin like 3600 4000 stuff like that....I said screw this I hate being addicted to a drug so I talked to my doctor and got on Lyrica......My normal gabapentin dose was 600 three times a day. So it's been switched to twice a day with 25mg of Lyrica twice daily......But since I was using such high doses it was hard to just take one 600 mg pill....I have for two days going on three been taking it right....So how long does it take for gabapentin to reach a steady blood level...?

Pregabalin and gabapentin dont have long half-lifes (around 6-8hrs), so 24-48 hrs should be long enough for blood levels to lower.

You do realize that pregabalin is likely more addictive then gabapentin?

Pregabalin is basically the parent drug of gabapentin and is around twice as potent.
It doesnt make alot of sense being on both meds at the same time, you could have switched over to an equipotent dose of pregabalin without any titration.

I asked the doc that and he said that he was thinking of me....? So I guess since being on such a high dose of gabapentin and 25 mg of Lyrica which I think is around three hundred mg of gabapentin. He just said I want it to be an easy transition.

Yes but the gabapentin just wasn't doing it for me.....Even at high doses that's why I used the high dose. Not to get high....Just to feel like my normal self but I have a butt load of other psych meds that I'm on which cause a lot of apathy....like AAP's AD's klonopin.....crap like that!

I can understand that if you have some mental health problems that your doctor wants you to have an easy transition but I still think its not needed.

Maybe your doctor is giving you that tiny dose of pregabalin to test for side effects.
I cant take gabapentin because it gives me crippling stomach pain but I have no problem with 600mg of pregabalin (my daily script)....so idk, maybe thats your docs thinking.lol

IMO, pregabalin is a far superior drug, both for pain and anxiety.
When you get scripted a proper dose of pregab you should really feel the benefits.
