Opioids Dosage question regarding opiates with mild tolerance

So I've been taking oxycodone for back pain every day for almost two years. My dose is 30 mg a day, so not too crazy, but I haven't felt a buzz in a long time, probably a year or so. How much would I need to take to achieve a buzz with that mild tolerance? How much would cause me to overdose? Also, what would Xanax and/or alcohol do to potentiate that dosage? I know the combination of Xanax and oxycodone can be strong, but is there a percentage or rule of thumb? For example, if I took 30mg of oxy in one dose, what would adding 1mg of Xanax do...would it be equivalent to 60mg of oxy, i.e. double the effectiveness? If there's a specific post that answers this, I would really appreciate a link.

I'm new, so I apologize if this is the wrong forum or if I'm not allowed to ask here. I'm just trying to be safe (well, as safe as this sort of thing can be, anyway).

I don't think it is possible to give you some sort of equivalent dose of oxy+alprazolam compared to oxy alone, the nature of poly substance use is a little bit more complex than that. A good rule of thumb would be, if you insist on combining opioids and benzodiazepines (which I would advise against), you should start off by taking half your normal dose of both drugs.

I reckon 45mg oxycodone would be a decent dose for you to try recreationaly, that quantity really should not be dangerous if you have taken 30mg daily for years. Remember you can always take more but you cannot take less, assuming you are using an IR formulation you could take more if you aren't feeling much after an hour or so. I wouldn't increase your dose by more than 10-15mg at a time though.

If you are using oxycodone every day for pain you should really consider if recreational use of the same substance is a wise idea, increasing your dose to get high will push up your tolerance to oxy which will mean you need to take more to feel adequate relief from your back pain. The wisest decision may be to keep using your medication as directed and take drugs you do not rely on for daily relief for a buzz.

I am working at the moment and don't really have time to search for threads on the topic, there is a search function which you can find near the top right of the page next to Forum Tools.

youre taking 30MG for years now; it's time to up that dosage; I would start at 45 and give it a half hour/hour. if not, then just double dosage and make it 60MG. that should get you going.

as far as benzos w/ the dosing we are talking, they are unnecessary. what benzos CAN and WILL do is KNOCK you the FUCK OUT! and it ruins your opiate high. I was a heavy opiate using and used benzos as well; there were time I'd shoot up good dosage and get that euphoric feeling and then I'd swallow 4MG of Xanny and get knocked the fuck out.

take the opiates, start at 45 and go to 60 if need be. overdose? well, that would take much higher dosing. I wouldnt even have a number for you but considering opiates have been in your body so long I'd say you should have no worries at 45-60 whatsoever; maybe even heavier.

alcohol will just make you feel more "drunk" than high on opiates, so stay away, unless a beer or two (I drank on opiates always). the benzo, as said above, is a waste. if you want to TRY it out then just take your normal benzo dosage and see what the reaction is like w/ the opiate; considering you've been doing this for years already, there is not too much to worry about.

Forget the benzos and booze. It doesn't increase the effectiveness of opiates in the way you are thinking and provides a large risk, present when mixing any CNS depressants.

You've gotten good advice so far. Just up your oxy dosage. Start slow, 45mg's or so, then increase as necessary.

The whole taking extra meds for a buzz thing though is a slippery slope. Because you need them for pain legitimately, if you continue to do this, your tolerance will sky rocket, you'll run out of pills, and they won't work as well anymore for your pain without you having to take a large dosage.

I totally understand the slippery slope thing, but I have a few safeguards in place. I only get enough medicine to take 30 mg a day, and I don't have access to getting any outside of that prescription. I can't function without taking at least 20 mg a day, so I can't ever run out of medicine early. That's why I would like to get the dosage right the first time. When I first started taking oxy, I could never add more to it and get higher or prolong a buzz. I don't know if that's how it's supposed to work or if I just waited too long between doses. Anyway, I have 120 extra mg saved up, and I'm going to need a buzz to handle going to the funeral for my best friend of 20+ years. It sounds like I have two recreational doses of 60mg to work with. Maybe I'll only take the oxy before the funeral and take Xanax/booze to knock me the hell out when I get home.

Thanks, guys. I appreciate it.

That sounds pretty reasonable. I'm in the same situation. I get 30mg/day for pain and need at least 15-20 to be pain-free (sometimes 30-40).

You should be fine on 60, but you might want to close your eyes a bit so be careful at the funeral unless you don't mind the looks. And BE CAREFUL with adding benzos or booze just to knock you out at night. It will work, so don't overdo it. Just a mg or so of Xanax should knock you out later.

I am in almost exactly the same situation. I am prescribed 20mg a day for chronic pain, but it simply isn't enough after twelve months. Admittedly, I have run the gauntlet a few times to see what would fully ease the pain for longer, and I doubled up over the course of four hours. I am concerned that my doctor won't increase my dosage, so am wondering if tramadol SR 100mg twice a day might help?
Out of interest, doubling the dose did ease my pain, and I felt energised and focused on anything I put my mind to. Perhaps that was just the fact I wasn't in pain, but it was certainly a good feeling.
I apologise if this isn't fully related to the topic, but I am a green lighter and still finding my feet. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

It's better to start your own thread raymond, but to answer your question, 200mg of tramadol is equivalent to about 15mg of oxy. I'm not sure though, my memory may be wrong.

Sorry fhk. I didn't mean to cause any offence. I thought the helpful guide to increasing the oxy might be of use. The answer regarding tram is appreciated though. Thank you, and once I am approved to start new threads; I will. Thanks again.
