Right now i'm on 25 mg Valium taken about an hour and a half ago, and I'm aware that mixing opioids and benzo's are very risky, but I want to know if this is a good idea:

In about 30 minutes, split my Norco 10-325 in half, and then half it again so I wind up with 2.5mg Hydrocodone while on 25mg Valium. I have a moderate tolerance to hydro (30mg to feel anything) and no tolerance to benzos. These are both prescribed.

Opinions?

Is 25mg diazepam your normal amount?

2.5mg hydrocodone is a small dose. Combining opioids and benzos certainly can be dangerous, but if you are used to 25mg diazepam, and if your normal dose of hydrocodone is 30mg, then 2.5mg hydrocodone sounds like it should be okay. We can never offer guarantees but you have reduced your normal dose by a lot.

It's generally fine to take prescribed medications at the doses they have been prescribed at.

Torally agree with effie on this. Your hydro dose is incredibly minimal. You say they are both prescribed-how much are you 'prescribed' to take per day?(of the hydro). It IS a common guideline that it is safer to not combine opies and benzos. Also to take lower amounts of each in combination than you would if taking them individually.

You're safe...I'm pretty up there on the probability totem. You could dose more hydro even, and be okay. Maybe a 15-20mg total for one with a low tolerance but with a prescription ... and assuming you take SOME daily.

I take 20mg Hydrocodone every 6 hours (60-70mg a day), and 5mg Valium every 8 hours. I normally take 40-50mg Valium to get tired. In the end, I decided this was a dangerous combo and didn't go through with it.

This might be dumb, but one thing I've always wondered about hydrocodone is, is if whether or not the mixture of hydrocodone and APAP uniformly distributed throughout one side of the scored pill. I would assume that it would be evenly distributed on each side of the pill, as in there would be 5mg on each side, but would the same be true for each half of one scored side where it would be 2.5mg on each. As in, if you quartered the pill by cutting one side in half, if there would be 2.5 on each of those quarters. Maybe I'm just dumb though lol.

Great question!!! to my knowledge (Research) it is evenly distributed.

Interesting. Good to know. It's fascinating (to me at least) how they can engineer something like that. Just a bunch of fillers and binders with two drugs and they mix perfectly even in a tablet.

It might not be absolutely spot on perfect, but good enough not to be noticable at all as far as I am aware..

Well ya, I wouldn't be able to notice it because 5mg of hydrocodone is ONLY pain relief to me lol. Dunno what 2.5 would do for me lmao...

Fair enough. Better safe than sorry :)

Going to close this now as it has been answered (as has your question Doug :) )
