Opioids Dope Smell?

I've been an I.V heroin user for three years, and in the past 2-3 months I've been shooting my subs as well. I've noticed (and have talked to other who have shared a similair sensation) that sometimes when I shoot up my suboxone, I feel like I taste dope in my mouth and nose, exactly the same sensation I would get after shooting heroin. In fact, I'm experiencing it right now, stronly. I'm wondering what the cause of this might be, and if all opiates when I.V'd create this smell/taste. Unfortunately, the only opiates I've ever shot are bupe and dope, so I don't know if drugs like Oxycodone, hydromorphone, oxymorphone, even methadone etc etc give you that sensation when injected. Is it the actual taste of all opiates/opiods (like when you shoot crack mixed with koolaid you taste the koolaid), or is it some kind of brain activity that is caused by sudden stimulation of the receptors which produces the sensation?
 
Conditioning/association are good guesses, except like Znegative, I only get it with buprenorphine, and heroin. I have tried IV oxycodone and IV dilaudid, no comparable effect.

I have also used many other drugs IV'd (flurazepam, loprazolam, midazolam, cocaine, meth, ketamine, MDA, hydroxyzine) and none of these have a similar effect.

I really am puzzled by this too though, because I get it "strongly" too.
 
Never shot heroin or buprenorphine, but I when shoot anny meth I can definately taste/smell the ammoia and ether. Always assumed they were coming out of the blood through the lungs, but IDK maybe it's just association. But I still think I'm really tasting it, seems to strong to be all in the head.
 
I think C.H is spot on with the conditioning. I've never experienced this so I can't directly comment but conditioning seems the most logical and simple explanation.
 
I know the taste you guys are talking about I always get that when I would shoot heroin. I have also shot my suboxone a few times and have gotten the taste as well from that. Also have never shot anything else then subs and dope.
 
I've only iv'ed heroin, but know the taste.

For those who taste it with subs are you doing the orange subs, and how are you preparing your shots? Aside from association, conditioning, only thing that I can think of is that there is something in the pill causing the taste, and however you're preparing/filtering it, isn't removing it.

I'm micron filtering, and I experienced it with Suboxone and Subutex (Subutex doesn't have a flavoring agent like Suboxone - after micron filtering, the Subutex solution was perfectly clear).

I thought it could be the flavoring agent in Suboxone too but I was surprised when I got the flavor from micron filtered Subutex too.

I always wondered if the flavoring agent is micron filtered out or not (sine only part of the coloring agent is, the micron filtered Suboxone solution I have is still slightly orange) but since it was the same effect as the micron filtered Subutex I was guessing that the flavoring agent either is filtered out or it isn't but it isn't influencing/changing this/isn't the cause of it.

I am even wondering if it is an association or not, because I don't taste dope if I snort other drugs (like ketamine for instance) and more often than not, I was snorting heroin and not IVing it (though I did IV it about 1 or 2 dozen times before quitting).

The dope taste for me was just as strong snorted or IV'd, so I'm wondering why snorting ketamine or meth for instance, wouldn't have the same taste?

It could be an association since IV opiates have a lot in common (sedation, relaxation, euphoria/enjoyment) even if they are all not as euphoric to the degree that heroin is. Maybe with some more subjective reports here we can try to understand what's happening... anyone got any insight or experiences they want to share?
 
well, the strange thing for me, the first time I experienced this, was that I wasn't expecting or looking for that kind of sensation, it just hit me, which made me think that it was real. I don't micron filter my suboxone, but I never taste that orange shit unless i do a huge shot of 2 mg. This makes me think that it's not maybe the taste of the pill, but rather the result of some kind of chemical produced in your brain when the sub hits (I know I know, sounds real pseudo-scientific)

It appears that it would be removed, because its particle size is 1 micron or larger. I am not 100% sure on its particle size but I google'd as much as I could, and found this: http://www.faqs.org/patents/app/20090220664

I can taste some of my solution too, it probably won't taste sweet.

All in all, Subutex doesn't have the same sweetener, but has the same effects (for me, at least) as the OP describes. All in all, there must be another factor we haven't thought of, or it merely is conditioning.
 
When you shoot Coke ( I dont but know many people who do) you taste the coke in your mouth and it numbs your tongue ect. Im pretty sure that since you have a very abundant amount of blood vesself veins and arterys in your tongue that as it travels through your body your taste buds can pick up some molecules as it passes through your tongues vascular parts. I dont think its association. Why suboxone over other synthetic opiates? Maybe because its such a strong opiate?? I have experience something similar to this taste sensation; When I had a suply of those little Red Morphines I had a few extra so I decided to experiment and smoke a couple. I chased one on foil and smoked one in a pipe with a few screens and it actually tasted EXTREMEMLY like some high quality dope. Maybe association as you all say, but I wouldnt contribute it to that but I just would like to think its not that simple.
 
This is off topic--- but why bother shooting SUBS? dont they have a high enough bioavailability if you just snort them?

Do you get a good rush or high from shooting them, or have you just developed a fixation to the needle through your years of heroin abuse?
 
i think its normal, when i boot dope i get a pine taste in my mouth i think its the adulterants.

Hmm, weird. I wouldn't think it would have to do with strength. I could see if a receptor was triggering the taste.

Some people do develop an addiction to the needle, and just like shooting things. The BA of subs is ~30,50,100, sub,snorted,short, respectively.

The adulterants should be cleaned out however in prepping, and if the suboxone/straight bupe are both coming up with these tastes, I don't think it would be the adulterant.
