Don't smoke 2C-I, kids

So I decided I'd give smoking 2C-I a try, seeing as how one of the most common phenethylamines is frequently smoked (meth). However, after smoking about ten milligrams, a purple coating of iodine was plainly visible in my bowl. I tripped a little bit, but clearly the compound breaks down way too easily to make it practical and healthy. A no go!

Do you see the purple? It might be hard to see due to bad light with the camera, but there is definetely iodine there. I forgot to mention last time, the very second it melted it also turned black... :( Even heating subsequent bowls of 1-2mg very slowly, it turned straight black. But it did still give me threshold effects.
 
I guess it is within the realm of possibilities that there is a corrupt batch of 2c-i going around. Who knows what kinds of mistakes a drugged out chemist might make.
 
Treefingers: It might not be pure iodine, but it certainly has iodine in it. It's the perfect color. Do you have any ideas?

intoxo: The potency was the same as previous batches I've had, and the initial product was pure white. I don't have the equipment to test and make sure, but I'm reasonably certain the product was pure.
 
actually what Intoxo said makes sense. If the 2C-I wasn't properly cleaned after the final reaction, there would be iodine impurities left. I'm just pretty positive that iodine does not break off from the 2C-I molecule when it breaks down. There was a big controversy over it in the past.

That makes sense treefingers. There was no trace whatsoever of iodine before the vaporizing, but it could well have just blended in so well with the rest of the stuff that it was invisible. Regardless, it's an experiment I certainly don't intend to repeat!
 
so is this just elemental iodine? that is fucked up. Is this safe to eat? How bad would it burn my lungs if I smoked it?
 
It works fine eaten. There's iodine in your table salt; in the miniscule ammounts you might be ingesting from 2C-I it's totally fine.
 
no matter how much table salt you melt you'll never see a purple gas released. Also, I bet it isn't elemental iodine in table salt at all- probably something like
NaI.

I was looking forward to smoking 2ci soo much, too. oh well.
 
Getting halogens to separate from an aromatic ring takes more than a bit of heat; also the amount of iodine present in 10mg of 2C-I is going to be way less than 5mg and you're simply not going to see the presence of 5mg of iodine as it would sublime (turn directly from solid to gas) way before the melting/vapourization point of 2C-I
 
Yeah.. A friend of mine tried vaporizing 2ce.. similar things happen
He says there is a feeling that he is on the verge of tripping but it gives him massive headache, depressive mood, and dysphoria..
AVOID!!
