Film Don't Look Up (hilarious!)

Now that I think about it this film’s plot seemed like a better, comedic approach to Lars von Triers crappy ass film Melancholia.

Yeah man, I thought it was absolutely great! My gf loved it too. Packed with great actors, great writing, everything. One of the best movies of last year, hands down, if not the best. I'm struggling to think of one I liked better.
 
Am I the only one that thought it was very mediocre? It's not at all as intelligent as it pretends to be, feels like they tried too hard at everything.
All in all quite boring and not really funny, imo.

Anyone else? I can smell the "Netflix" on this from miles away, not a fan, sadly.

I personally didn't have the impression it was trying to be smart, just highlighting the stupidity.

What made it great for me was the comedy, on point with the jokes.

I'm quite difficult to please, especially comedy movies. I rarely actually laugh at comedy. I think that's why I loved it so much simply because it made me laugh.
 


Americans are easily entertained. Little guinea pigs running around.

Tho, if I'm not in a mood to laugh, I won't.

I have a large appreciation for my own sense of humor

I didn't much care for it either.

I watched it in two parts, though, and during both parts I was under the influence of z-drugs, so I don't actually remember much from it lol. But I do remember thinking that the satire was kind of "blunt force", not subtle or particularly clever, and not really of the same caliber as other satires about political/social topics (like "Dr. Strangelove", which I've seen some commentators mention in reviews of this film). Those were my impressions of the film...but, like I said, my memory of the film is "hazy", like I remember literally nothing about how the film ended but reading about the ending on Wikipedia, it actually sounds kinda funny so maybe I'll give it another shot at some point :LOL:
 
I'm pretty difficult to make laugh as well.

I can't recall a movie that was particularly funny. The Sopranos had great jokes though.


I'm actually a fan of the concept of a sitcom, but apart from Seinfeld and Frasier I never saw a good one. I've been meaning to give Cheers a chance but I'm suspicious.
Other than that, Arrested Development used me to cry at times and Curb is great as well but I could never bring myself to watch it as a whole.
 
Finally finished it; I did enjoy it.

Mark Rylance is great.
 
It was a decent comedy, better than most recent satire I've seen. Really hit the nail on the head with the billionaire-Elon Musk-guy. A bit in your face at some times. I agree that comparing it to Dr. Strangelove is kinda slanderous to Kubrick though.
 
I didn't hate it, but It didn't do much for me either. I only watched it to catch up with the discourse, and found it far too didactic and unsubtle. I chuckled a few times, but also cringed a lot. Leo hams it up a bit too much. It also might have been more poignant had Meryl Streep not been an obvious stand-in for Trump. I guess McKay and Sirota figured the jokes would just write themselves that way; besides, the alternative (a hapless Dem) would have been unpalatable for the vast majority of the film's intended audience. I do wonder if it would have been possible to pull a Iannucci and make the party affiliation of the people in power impossible to determine. The greater narrative arc worked though, and seems quite plausible!

(Also: Haven't seen since it came out, but Melancholia rules.)
