I never wanted to be asking for it in the first place. I still don't. But if it isn't raised then Bluelight goes away. Or turns into something we don't want.
A large part of the reason that my tone may not sound so chipper right now is that this weekend I am flying to Sydney to go to Alan's memorial. What for many of you is an abstract loss is for me very real, and is about to get much, much realer. I am going to give my condolences in person to his family, who fundamentally do not approve of this site.
My very last contact with Alan was hounding him about the payment he had promised for Bluelight, knowing he was in hospital and very sick, but also knowing that without that payment Bluelight would be literally turned off. He died before I had a chance to properly thank him
This week I have spent the equivalent hours of a part time job organising the financial elements of Bluelight. While working full time elsewhere. While deciding what to wear to a wake.
No. Right now I cannot deal with people asking those questions. Either I have earned the trust of people here to cut me some slack while things get sorted, or else I haven't.
Donate now, donate later when things are more organised, or else don't.
I think we can all sit back and understand that this whole situation at hand, the passing of Alan, the financial elements of BL, has been a long road for some.. Guaranteed.
The key point to everything is simple in my mind. Johnboy is asking for a
donation. Bottom line. In no way does that mean that anybody imparticular is solely responsible for making a donation. Actually, no one at all is obligated to do so. I can undestand completely where alot of people would like their questions answered, would like to know where their money is going, the financial elements of things, etc. I can understand that 110%. Because I don't know anyone personally in the Administration of Bluelight, it makes me mildly curious as well. But, do we all have the right to know that? No. What we do have the right and/or privilege to do, is to continue to partake in the BL community. However, it costs money and obviously Johnboy can not afford it himself entirely.. or else he wouldn't be asking for donations.
There is a set mark of how much money is to be raised and/or needs to be raised.
.. "€5.5K in hosting costs and a general purpose slush fund (legal fund) of €1.5K"..
That's good information to know and that's all the "explanation" that is really need.. so long as Johnboy himself is being honest with his intentions and where the money is going.. Our donations.. What the donations are for, etc. I don't see a need to question him anymore with it. Once again.. Bottom line.. It's a donation to the Bluelight cause, really, no explanation is needed.
If you love Bluelight, if you have been a member of this community for the past several years, like myself, and soo many others.. I would suggest making a contribution to the cause, to Bluelight, everything it is, what it has become, what it has done for you personally, and the community that we all have here. It really is a great thing.. and it would be a shame for it to change much. So make a small donation and help give back to the community that we all have helped build.
I just donated $10E-- does BL automatically get the funds or do I need to email BL the Transaction Receipt ID#?
If an occaisional $10 is all I need to enjoy BL, I do NOT need any more details.
I feel like Pennywise - I don't care WTF happens to my $10 as long as I get to enjoy BL.
If all it takes is a $10 donation to help keep Bluelight running, for me, it's a small price to pay. For lots of us, it is a small price to pay in return for having bluelight. A great community, a great website, that I have personally been visiting since I was just 14 , 15 years old.
If you can donate, DONATE. Nows the time.. and it would be great to help contribute to the cause. If your too overly worried about what your donation might be used for, simply do no donate.
Once again.. it's a donation.. not an obligation..
Just my two cents.
