Anyone else here love Dominican music? If you do, post what you've been listening to recently!

Recently, I've been listening to:

Merengue
Sin Embargo Hay Algo by El Sujeto
Pa' Eso Bebe by Amarfis
El Pollo by Amarfis
Esa Tipa Tiene Un Flow by El Inconciente
Por Pila by Rinal Klen

Bachata
El Desprecio by Aventura
Yo Quisiera Amarla by Aventura
Dile El Amor by Aventura
Mi Secreto by Leonardo Paniagua
Maldita Vida Sin Ti by Leonardo Paniagua

Dominican Dembow
Pepe by Doble T y El Crok
Pepe (Remix) by Toxic Crow
Sabana Sabana by Mozart La Para ft. Doble Caco
Lo Que Tiene Dembow by Omega El Fuerte
Guerra Del Dembow by Mozart La Para ft. Poeta Callejero

Then some stuff which is not always Dominican specifically (some of it is) but is still popular in DR:

Reggaeton
Mimiguivi by Don Miguelo
El Roze by Ñejo ft. Jack Style
Hasta Que Salga El Sol by Jowell y Randy ft. Tito El Bambino
Reggaeton Ripiao by Grupo Aguakate
Suave by Calle 13 (super old, I know but I can't get enough haha)

Salsa
Dos Jueyes by Willie Colon
Idilio by Willie Colon
Ya No Me Importa by Rey Reyes
Yo No Se Mañana by Luis Enrique
Te Toca Ahora by Bimbo G

So yeah, I limited it to 5 songs per genre, but feel free to post more. I'm always looking for some new shit to listen to so hopefully we can all expand each others libraries here. =D

I am woefully ignorant, but interested in learning more-- what should I get from the genre to start?

The songs that I've posted in the Salsa and Bachata sections are pretty good examples of the genre. With respect to Merengue tho, I listen to a lot of Merengue Mambo which is kind of an acquired taste. Merengue is a pretty versatile genre. I'd start with that one song, Por Pila by Rinal Klen and then probably Ya Se Olvido Tu Nombre by Pocho y Su Coco Band.... Taka Taka and De Otro Planeta by Kalimete are pretty good too. I first listened to Kalimete when I started listening to Merengue.

Like the poster above said, don't listen to Reggaeton as a first introduction. It might turn you off from all Spanish music in general. The same goes for Dembow. Dembow is basically an incarnation of Reggaeton. I find though that Reggaeton kind of hooks you in. I hated the stuff until I heard a really good song and then I started listening to a ton of it. If you don't like Reggaeton though, you probably won't like Dembow.

Lacey! I would have never known! I am gonna check out those tracks tomorrow asap. The only tihng I don't like about Omega is that he's mad slow. Except for the Dueño track that was live for LMP. That was the bomb.

Do you listen to any Rinal Klen? Can't wait to check out your tracks tomorrow.

Yo, I just checked your stuff out, that Bachata was amazing and that song from Omega was one of his better ones. You can find a better quality recording of it on youtube if you search for maltrato. I gotta download those songs later.

Have you heard Sorpresa, Caramelo or Alante Alante by Omega? Alante Alante is the shit, I was listening to that shit for weeks straight haha. He even has a dembow track out (Lo Que Tiene Dembow), it isn't so great though. It has a few parts with a sick beat but it gets a kinda monotone at times. Iono, I still like it.

In terms of dembow though, theres some good dembow with some techno spliced into it. Like, Dembow Electronico by DJ Scuff and Hasta Que Salga La Luna which turned up on the LMP website a while ago. Well, that Hasta Que Salga La Luna song is not really dembow, but they make a techno beat which is kind of dembow-ish.... Haha, I've posted far too many songs in this post, ima step off for a bit.

haa idk why ppl always act so suprised when i start talkin bout bachata...shit...anoter one by omega i like is si no me amas, another fast one u might like better if u aint heard it already. good looks on the better quality , i jus linked the first one that came up when i searched real quick to post it in here. tu no ta pa mi goes slow as fuck in the beginning and slow down in parts but when its at a faster pace im feelin it. shit is hot as hell when it speeds up.

man listenin to that shit reminds me of summer daze with this nigga i use to roll with everywhere, chilled everyday and hustled together for a lil while, always had some omega shit or somethin else like that blastin in the car, ridin around windows down , makin runs to the heights to pick up O's of raw, pickin up droppin off, coppin dope, smokin L's.......shit brings me back yo.

Anyways...glad u liked the bachata i posted ima have to dig up some more my computter wtih all my music fried and i aint got shit on here so i gotta do some rememberin but give me time.

BTW Yo, LOL, hearin the dembow track reminded me of that Chacarron Macarron song. its a old ass video but it still makes me laugh to think about.

and IDK why ppl think that reggaeton is a bad place to start for a beginner...IDK how somebody could hear it, and NOT want to dance...How can u not like reggaeton...U got to be rhythm challenged or some shit if u aint feelin it. im tired as shit now but ima have to remember to keep comin back to this thread. u kno flacky Rachamim was also suprised that i was into bachata. i grew up spendin lots of time at my aunt n uncles house who is cuban...so i been listnin to spanish music since i was a lil kid and always enjoyed it and from that i have always had that poquito sabor latina in my preferences n style u feel me

Haha, I got you. It sucks I keep on checking this thread before I need to leave the house, I wanna check those tracks now!

It's funny my ex used to live in Hamilton Heights and a big connect that I had for ounces of bud and some dope was in Spanish Harlem so it kinda takes me back sometimes, especially being in Los Angeles right now, away from all of that. It's funny tho, having Dominican friends, a Dominican ex and listening to Dominican music has forever influenced the way I'll speak Spanish. -_-

The Chacarron Macarron song is that one with the guy basically saying gibberish the whole time, right?

The thing about Reggaeton is that I hated it the first time I heard it, but it takes the right song to get you into it. Now I listen to that all the time and hold the same view. Reggaeton is the shit. I gotta find some good Dembow to put up. Also, there's a few good Dominican rap joints coming out too.

OOHOHHHH shit, kind of off topic, but have you heard Uiyi Guaye by Calle 13? It's the most hilariously vulgar song that's ever been made, yo!!! There's no way they could play that on the radio, after the first chorus and few lines half of it would have to be edited out. The chorus is mad weird gibberish but the song is hilarious and mad nasty.

Yea thts wat im talkin about yo, its soooooo slow at the beginning but when it speed up its Hot!! it cracks me up tho that Omega sound mad gangsta IMO, with that low ass voice and everybody i know who liked listenin to him other than my self was some gangsta ass south american, dominican, etc coke dealers movin mad weight , ridin around blastin that omega shit pickin up and droppin off o's like we was in a movie scene, but some of these songs got titles like they do, (porque me tratas asi, tu no ta pa mi, si no me amas) and it makes me laugh that this is the sound track to that, u feel me. some of the names sounds like it is the merengue version of some R&B ish. why u treat me this way, u not into me, aiiii... (btw,i kno lot of dominicans especially older generations dont think its fair to call him merengue but im just speakin in general aint tryna get into all that, i seen his music described on a DR forum as "street style mambo merengue de calle" or some mess of a category like that 8) ) anyways...

Haha, I laugh at the titles all the time too! Like have you heard El Pollo by Amarfis? The chorus is like "Y me pregunto`, ¿Te gustas el pollo? ¡Si!" or something like that haha.

OMG. Please tell me you've heard Chichoriso by Moreno Negron!!!! That song is SO fuckin hillarious.

Yeah tho about the beat. Half the time I listen to Reggaeton or Merengue it reminds me of my good-old copping missions in Spanish Harlem or time spent with my ex in Hamilton Heights. Haha. Brings me back all the time.

Just wanted to stop back and say that Tu No Ta Pa Mi has become my new favorite song by Omega. I recommend it to anyone who reads this thread!!

man, they been playin Dile Al Amor everyday on La Mega (97.9) and I love hearin it, fuck i cant get enough of that song yo, when that El Chaval song came out last summer it was on the radio alot too thats one thing i like about bachata n stuff is that the good shit IS on the radio alot unlike the hiphop where alot of it is just the bullshit popular stuff, IDK there jus seems to be way more general quality in bachata, merengue, etc. prob becuz u got to have some musical skills with the instruments n all that. anyways tho thats wats up Im glad u like that song Ima have to check out some of the ones u listed that I aint recognize and see wats up cuz i guarantee ill find a new favorite there too, I think this is just our thread flacky nobody else know wat the hell we talkin about haha

Haha, I hear you on the thing about only us posting here. I think it's just because most of the people don't come to the music subforums. I didn't even know they existed for a while, I always just glossed over them.

Anyone else listening to these?:

No Lo Esperaba De Ti by Kiko Rodriguez

Tu No Sabes Del Amor by El Sujeto

Desafio by Daddy Yankee
Lo Mismo Siento by Arcangel ft. Franco El Gorilla
No Necesito (Remix) by Ñejo, Dalmata & Cosculluela

I'm looking up all new stuff too, if anyone knows some new shit, post it!

EDIT:
NEW TRACK ON FIRE FROM AMARFIS!!!! It's called "To Eso E Tuyo"

PR is definitely close enough! (Most of the Salsa and Reggaeton I list is from PR anyways haha).

I'll have to check out those songs tomorrow morning. I'm about to catch some sleep.

Nice to see a new person in the thread, btw. I'll update tomorrow as soon as I check out those songs.

Definitely feeling that song Permitame. I'm assuming that you've heard Me Estas Tetando, right??

Yes...classic.

If you listen to reggatone alot I'm trying to figure out this song ID. It was very popular song, it came out about 2 years ago I believe and the video was the guy in the club (he's baldheaded) and he's rapping very fast and the chorus just sounds like "eeeeeeeeeeeeeeee".
