Doing work an hour after waking, when best to consume a stimulant?

Normally if I have a lot of work to do (at university) I will have a strong cup of coffee or very occasionally take amphetamine about ten minutes before I start working. However I often feel I havn't "woken up" enough until a good few hours after waking. Would consuming caffeine and/or amphetamine as soon as I woke up mean I would be more alert an hour or so later than if I merely timed it so that the full effects would kick in just before I started.

Do you take them with a meal?

best way for me personally, is to make my breakfast, drink 1/2 my cup of coffee, wait 10-15 min, then eat and drink the rest of the coffee during the meal. gives you a nice boost of energy quickly, and helps the stimulation last longer since its absorption is being slowed down by food digestion.

Did the same thing with amps back when i used them in low doses for the very same purpose (well, work, not school). Dissolve in a shot of water, and consume 15 min before a meal on an empty stomach.

thanks for the replies, sounds like a nice idea to have half before half after a meal and nice to know the bioavailability and absorption time, but i was wondering, if it takes me 3 hours to fully "wake up" and if during that time i take a stimulant i can feel the effects but still feel like i havn't been up long, would the effects of stimualants on the CNS mean that if I took the stimulant as soon as I woke up so it would fully kick in well before I started working it would take me less time to for the morning feeling to go away. This is very hard to put into words lol.

Try waking up fully before you drink your coffee. Maybe exercise a bit or stimulate your mind.

Joe that's horribly worded :p but I think I know wha you mean?

Yes if you take the stimulant in the morning and it takes you 3 hours to wake up nornally, it will reduce the amount of time needed to feel as if you've woken up. I suggest in the morning when you wake up, chug a double serving of a protein shake, or just one with milk. Then take your stimulant and it will kick in faster and feel a lot better too.
