I have been clean for almost 11 months now. I was wondering if anyone had any good ideas or references for volunteering. I would only be doing it for me, to spend my time better, and hopefully find something to enjoy, or find something that I want in general. Any fun/interesting ideas would be great.:D

any local hospital. in memphis we have a world renowned children's hospital (st. jude) that i am going to volunteer at this xmas. maybe you can check out some hospitals or old folks homes...

HIV/AIDs outreach center, Homeless shelters, Boys and Girls Club, Needle exchange but only if you think your recovery is strong enough.

Do you live by a beach? Where I live there is an organization called Save Our Shores and they have many opportunities for volunteering with others cleaning up the beaches. It's a great way to get all those positive ions!:)

of course :)

I'd love to hear back from you when you get the chance. :D How's your recovery going, and have you found some new hobbies, activities? It's always great to hear inspirational stories of people going on to do amazing things. %)

Honestly, my progression is very subtle and slow, I'm still far from where I want to be, I have picked up a few hobbies, I was always into acrylic painting but I made and painted a key rack and bird house, and made done bird feeders out of pine cones to hang outside my window! But I am not doing to well with school it got to overweening and I stopped out, it might have been a mistake to try it this early on recovering but hey, already I tried it out right? Do maybe thinking it would be better to get a party time job and volunteer for nOw. Still having trouble enjoying things ya know

It's always difficult to find the balance between pushing yourself enough to grow and get strong and pushing yourself too much so that you fail and confirm your sense of fragility or weakness. Just keep listening to yourself (and asking yourself questions!). When you feel afraid to do something, take a good luck at that. Advise yourself the same way you would advise a good friend that you want the best for. Encourage yourself to try, accept failures as learning opportunities and skill building, rather than final outcomes. Subtle and slow progression is progression. Yay for you!<3
