Doing heroin once - possible?

I got a question for all the h heads.
Is it possible just to try heroin once, and then forget about it or keep it under control? I'm scared that once I open this door, I will never be able to close it.
When it comes to e, in the beginning I couldn't wait until the next time I was gonna take it. These days, it doesn't matter if I have it in a month, or two. Same with meth - last time I had it was about 5 months.
PS. I will snort the H. Any input will be much appreciated.

Yes I know people like this. In fact many people don't like h when they first do it.
On the other hand everyone always ends up doing like all their h. People post all the time I don't really like this stuff...but when you read their story they inexplicablly shoot it all. The easiest way to avoid this problem (and it works amazingly well) is don't have more h on hand.
In short from my brief experiences with h (which is actually an advantage to this quesiton as an occasional user with few cravings) I don't view it as much more addictive (or craving inducing) than any other narcotic. I mean even after just coming down form heroin I would kill for e or meth but I am ambivalent about heroin.
The thing about heroin is that it fixes everything. As someone said it is 'novocaine for the soul.' In addition it really isn't hard on your body which makes it really easy to just keep taking and ease the little burdens that life inflicts on you and soon you are addicted.
In short I think it is an error to label heroin more addictive than cocaine because circumstances make it more likely to be addictive (it does have fewer side effects, it doesn't have terrible crashes is more affordable, you can work on it, doesn't induce psychosis). This is like saying nicotine is more addictive than crack because 9/10 nicotine users will be addicted while the number with crack is much lower. While this is undoubtedly true I really think the thesis that nicotine is more rewarding/self-reinforcing than crack is bullshit. People are more easy to get addicted to cigarrettes because they are more socially acceptable, people are more likely to get addicted to heroin precisecly for the abscence of side effects (it is sorta like the drug bucket everyone ends up in once they can't maintaing their more damaging habits).

that is 110% accurate... your probability of addiction increases exponentially with the level of mess in your life, so its your call & your call only...
personally, i've been snorting H on and off for the last year... and whilst frequency and quantity have been on a steady increase... currently a gram lasts me anywhere from 4-6 days, and once i've gone through that i go an equal amount of days (sometimes slightly less) without any H... this keeps my tolerance low and withdrawls at bay...
right now, i have no physical problems whatsoever from stopping H... psychologically, however, that is another story... and thats partly due to the fact that my life is kind of a mess right now, and i'm a fairly weak-minded person anyways, and like the post above already said, H sorts pretty much anything out for you...
good luck whichever path you wish to choose...

A friend of mine seems to think that "Oh no, the high from heroin is too good! You'll be instantly addicted!"
Of course, she's full of shit.
You're not going to become a raging smack fiend from one hit, if you did, you'd probably be addicted to several OTHER drugs right now, just because of your personality.

Of course it's possible.
I have tried Heroin two times now. I haven't done it for three weeks since then and while I have not forgotten about it, I am not a totally new transformed addict of a person because of my H use because of those two times. I would love to do some more, and I will soon enough but it is very possible to keep it under control.
It all depends on you, do you think you have an addictive personality? I have a large amount of Ketamine sitting in front of me right now, I haven't touched the stuff in two weeks though.
Oh yeh, and I snorted the H.

From recent personal experience it is possible to try H once and leave it behind. Self control is a beautiful and essential thing to have in this situation. The only thing that will keep you using it is yourself.

A few weeks ago I had the same question, did some research, asked a few people here and there, and came to the conclusion that:
  • about 50% of people that I asked tried heroine once and did NOT become addicts
of those who became addicted, a couple of them reported that they actually MADE a conscious choice to keep doing it.
yes, the effects/withdrawals of Heroin have been overdramatized by the media
On the other hand, common sense tells me that if you are afraid to try it, then maybe you shouldn't.
But, unfortunately, the oonly person who can make the decision is you.
I'm not trying to be preachy here, but a guy once said that the best way not to crave something is never try it.
In any case, be careful and enjooy yourself.

It has always seemed to me that heroin addiction, more than anything else, was a sort of philosophical position about the world. Coke, meth, e are kinda like candy, damn good candy, but the sort of fun tasty experience I sometimes want to have.
I experiment with heroin and shooting a couple bags with my friends is hardly of more concern than any of the above things. Although this may be because I think e is the best thing ever (even though I have managed to only roll half a dozen times thank god) transcending by orders of magnitude all other drugs. Also I generally like stims. Hell after I shoot H and have fun I don't even have that craving for more which is unfortunatly influencing me with meth at the moment (remember to share damnt).
It is those dark times in my life. When I am convinced that life is a pointless less in pain that I find myself craving that anastetic for the soul (okay so that was half a rip off of a bad band lyric). The world is bad and painfull nothing we can do will fix that, at the best we can innoculate ourselves from the pain.
In some respects that is the nobility of the heroin addiction. It is consistant. All of my experiences of life suggest that there is no ultimate meaning or purpose we can detect and we are left to labour under incredible pain and hardship without just reward. Should we not treat this deep spiritual pain, the pain of watching everyone grow old die and suffer needlessly, the same way we treat our physical pain? In some ways being a heroin addict is making a statement. I am high so I will shut up now.

Although I will always support the right to use any and all drugs, I think you're reaching a little bit there with your last paragraph.
Allowing your life be controlled by any substance is self-inflicted bondage and I see nothing noble about that.

I was always intruiged by heroin. I know that it must be the ultimate feeling, beyond anything else natural or even chemical. And afterall, I have enough selfcontrol to stop taking it the next day. (rite!?!)
I have known about 10 people who were close friends of mine and ended up on heroin.
for 5 of them I don't know anything. they more or less disappeared.
3 of them are dying of hepatitis C, because junkies are refused treatment if they can't stick to the Metadone therapy
1 died 2yrs ago at age 25 in McDonalds Toilet. he shot up and his heart just stopped.
(heart-failure and not overdose)
1 (my brother) stuck with the metadone program and was given the treatment for HEP C. He's been clean now for 2yrs. The Hep. C is more or less cured (as far as can be) he's married now, got a good job.
also, out of the literally countless people i knew who got on heroin, only one managed to stick to a once in a yr. plan. he took it every year once for 3 yrs and then stopped.
THEY ALL JUST WANTED TO TRY IT ONCE...
Now... only one of many, many, many managed to avoid addiction.
and... only one of those who got addicted actually got off it after years of agony. (trust me, treating a disease like Hep. C and goin of heroin aint pretty)
also, it goes beyond the dangers of heroin itself. as i said be4, many get all sorts of diseases, because they just need hit so bad that they can't wait to get new needles.
all in all ask yourself if its worth it?

By the way... just to clarify...
I really am not a narrow-minded drugs are bad person. Of course it is possible to try it every now and again and never get addicted to it.
My brother himself literally used heroin regualry for well over 6months without ever getting a craving for it.
All I'm sayin is, be careful. There are plenty more things to do which are also fun, but less dangerous. (Speed, E's, LSD, etc... aren't they all just lovely?) why risk it all for a few hours of pleasure. Which is all u'll get if u only try it once.
Hey, I really respect all bluelighters and their opinions and decisions in life, but some of u sound very much like those friends of mine I mentioned in the above post. just a few years ago.
all up, be careful and in control... this stuff is way more powerful than u're puny little minds and bodies. (no offense to anyone in particular)
and excuse the lengh and possible errors, but i'm still buzzing on meth from last nite.

Ive only done heroin once (injected), and I wouldnt do it again...I didn't like it much and I am simply not interested in a repeat experience. Perhaps if I were out of my pain meds and had my menstrual cramps badly, I'd do some...otherwise I coudln't be damned.
I even had a small part of the bag left that I gave to a friend....I was like yeah, just take it, I won't use it

Yeah, it's possible, as you saw from some people's replies not everyone likes it there first time, and in my opinion it's about self control. The first time I tried it I thought it was good, but nothing that I would become addicted to (now coke IV is another story, don't wanna touch it again cuz of the potential for wanting more and more). I mean on average I probabbly do it once a week. Sometimes more sometimes less, depends on what's going on. i don't know, I'd say give it a try if you're really interested in it, personally I don't think all the stuff you hear about it is true...most people have a preconceived notion that it's the worst drug around, maybe just from what we've heard growing up, i don't know. But yeah to answer your question, you can do it once and forget about it.

Yes, it's possible to try it once or even a few times and not get "hooked".
A few years ago I was using it fairly frequently at times for about 6 months and never had any problems. It was something fun, but I wasn't into it. I used it because it was available. And when I decided I didn't like my dealer I just stopped and didn't think about it again for years. Of course, I was snorting it then.
Everyone else who was using it with me had essentially the same experience. Everyone stopped.
This time around when I began using again I was severely depressed and I was shooting it. I didn't really care that I was going to get addicted. That's a big thing right there.
You don't get addicted in one shot. Perhaps psychologically, but you still have the ability to make conscious decisions about your use. There is that chance that you may like it so much that you don't care. But a heroin addiction is something you really have to apply effort to. It requires repeated use for weeks and weeks before you actually move onto physical addiction.

To some extent, yes. To some extent, no. Heroin is not this mind-controlling devil that it's made out to be. But when you're seriously addicted, the withdrawals are bad. Maybe you're not as physically ill as often depicted, but you feel like crap.. mentally and physically. The sickness is enough to keep most people from being able to go clean long enough to get over the physical addiction. And you can always just read any posts
A few days ago I saw this funny post somewhere about Ogre from Skinny Puppy saying they thought his heroin addiction was mostly overstated. Sorry, but a heroin addiction isn't "yeah, I think I'll get high this weekend". You go out to some ghetto, score and shoot up every day, actually shooting multiple times a day. It's really hard to play something like that up.
Now the media might portray someone like that as being completely helpless, a slave to their addiction and unable to function. In reality, a person may have a serious addiction like that and be something of a slave, but it doesn't mean you can't hold a job and lead an otherwise pseudo-normal life.
All I'm sayin is, be careful. There are plenty more things to do which are also fun, but less dangerous. (Speed, E's, LSD, etc... aren't they all just lovely?) why risk it all for a few hours of pleasure. Which is all u'll get if u only try it once.

I would say I have a fairly serious addiction problem, and yes, I sometimes reuse needles, but I'm still not so desperate as to not use alcohol or share needles. Or even not bother washing my needle out when I'm done. That's just true apathy.
Perhaps if I were out of my pain meds and had my menstrual cramps badly, I'd do some...otherwise I coudln't be damned.
That's interesting. Honestly, if I could give back my heroin and go back to just using Percocet and Oxy every few days, I totally would. Still enjoyable, a lot less bullshit in your life.

I've done heroin a few times (five or six I think). Last time was maybe three years ago. Each time it was OK but nothing more, bit boring really, you just sit there. When I bought it I didn't feel the need to finish the wrap and was happy to give a hit to friends. I have no interest in doing it again. I'm not saying that I'll never do it again, if somebody came over with some and offered me some and I was in the mood for sitting around doing fuck all I might have a hit. But if I had a choice of any drug then heroin would be a long way down the list! Guess it's just not my thing.
I've heard about people who get fucked up by heroin but most of the people I know who have taken it are more or less similar to me. Just remember that it can fuck you up and will fuck you up if you stop respecting it (like most drugs)

If you're asking this question, you've never shot heroin.
u're absolutly rite i never did, though i was very interested. still am. and i didn't wanna come over as know it all wanka. I am by no means comparing any of the above with heroin. If it wasn't betta, people wouldn't be taking it. But I honestly do think that once u touch heroin u're walking a very thin line, and yes it is all about self-control. However, there is a lot of people out there without self-control, or without enough of it. So my reasoning is, if anybody asks I'm against it and if they do it anyway, well then its their business. All power to them.
I mean if it wasn't risky, everybody would be doing it. I personally am too scared of it myself. hell, i cant even stop taking pills until i'm flat broke, let alone smack.
anyways, in my expirience H addicts are mostly decent, kind and most of all smart. so its not like only weak and stupid people become addicts.
I should really pop a sleeping pill, cause after 20hrs on meth, i still can't stop myself writing. :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

ChemicalDan is right about one thing: In my experience casual heroin use is walking a thin line between not using and the beginnings of an addiction. In my experience with the drug i have found that while it is in no way instantly addictive, the vast majority of people who try IV heroin for the first time find it to be one of the most dynamic and absolutely lovely drugs in existance. The fact that it was so much fun and felt so good is why people desire to try it a second time. It's not that they are addicted, its that they want to do it. I guess my advice is if you are the type of person who has an addictive personality and little self controll, heroin is not the drug for you.

Is the psychological addiction immediate like w/ coke? I know when I went and bought a ball, I finished that fucker, there's no oh I'll just do a 1/4g and save the rest, impossible. Do you fiend completely afterwards?

No. Most people I know who use it the first couple of times are not jumping to do it again right away. Heroin is something that generally is more of an aquired taste.

Thanks everyone for all of your replies.
I think I might forget about using heroin. As someone said, it's a thin line between recreational use and addiction. I'll give it a miss.
Once again, thanks people!
