Doing exctasy with mental illness?

Hey there, I'm going to my first rave on Friday and I was offered some Exctasy pills called "Pink Rhinos". My friend says they are fairly clean for E pills, and she thinks I will be fine.

However my concerns are I have mental illnesses such as Anxiety, Bipolar, and depression disorder. Although all of them are under control, and I basically don't even notice them usually, I am also on an anti depressent called "Ephexor"

I could stop taking the meds days in advance of the rave so they would not my in my system, but I'm still concerned mixing drugs and mental illness isn't a good idea.

I would only be doing 1 pill, and I would make sure I was watched and had water and what not.

Basically I just need to know if I would be okay, or if I should refrain from doing that.

I smoke marijuana on a regular basis, but have never done chemical drugs other then the many mental illness medications I've been on throughout my life.

Basically I just want to research as much as possible about the drug before I make my decision.

Ephexor/Effexor is an SNRI (serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor), and taking MDMA while on SSRI's/SNRI's is generally a bad idea because that type of medication essentially prevents the MDMA from releasing serotonin, in other words, you wont be able to roll. so i hate to say it but i wouldnt recommend taking the pill or stopping your meds, the Effexor withdrawal is absolutely horrible. plus if you really are depressed then best bet is to stay on your meds and let em do their work :\

props for goin online and doing some research before taking the pill though!
veryyy smart on your part :)

oh and if you wanna check out reviews/data on a pill check out Pillreports.com and Ecstasydata.com alot of pills nowadays are adulterated and those sites can most likely give you an idea of the contents of you pill, but the only thing that will actually determine the contents are a testkit. which you can order at Dancesafe.com (im giving you this advice in case you decide to roll after your off Antidepressants) :)

No one can tell you with certainty how MDMA would effect you as an individual with your conditions, but attempting to use MDMA merely days after stopping an SNRI/SSRI is not only typically not effective, it can be dangerous too.

I would only recommend you try MDMA if your choice to try it coincides with your MD actually assisting you in going off meds as a permanent part of your treatment.

MDMA is absolutely amazing, and though it's wonderful to meet people trying for the first time, in your situation it is likely not safe. I'm of the opinion that MDMA can play a powerful role in long-term treatment for someone with mental issues if respected (using it only 4-6x a year as part of therapy: http://www.maps.org/media/view/138_articles_about_mdma_ptsd_therapy/), but that obviously has to be done when no other medications are involved that would hinder it, and with actual professional guidance and help.

Pills just arent clean. Period. You don't know what you're getting even if it has a pretty stamp on it and a bright colour. Some crackhead probably pressed them in his basement, TBH noone can tell how it will effect you. I would advise against it because the RCs and amphetamines pressed into these things could easily cause a worsening of mental illness even if you don't notice your symptoms so much anymore.

Also being on an SNRI can be risky in combination with some of the chemicals pressed into pills. Oh and Effexor can cause withdrawals in some people so be careful if you're planning to stop it for a few days to take the Eck.

As a rule, mental illness and drugs don't mix well. I would suggest you don't take these pills or any other MDMA if you have mental illness and especially if you're being treated with pharmaceuticals.

Taking drugs is playing russian roulette with your mind at the best of times but if you've a history of weakness in this area then you're sticking too many live rounds in the chamber to make it worth the gamble. You might get away with it but you might trigger 10 years of abject misery. You're worried because you know it's a bad idea. Listen to your mind.

Bit like myself with cannabis,

Catching a buzz or lightly stoned, i am fine. I use too much and i start to hear things i shouldnt (my mum is schizophrenic) so thats a warning sign, mdma will probably make you further depressed, because of your situation.

You will definately feel 'suicide tuesday' harder than most over users (The comedown)
