Does that suggest they don't like it, or it is merely self limiting due to not lighting up typical reward circuits?

It indicates that they don't like it. It's not that self-administration occurs at a lower rate than with more addictive drugs, but it's that given the choice, animals don't self-administer cannabinoids.

THC is broadly thought not to be toxic to the mammalian nervous system, unless in MASSIVE doses.

Yes, but as I said, CANNABIS is toxic to dogs. Vertigo is not something someone would willingly want to experience.

ebola

wah-wah, mods give out potentially dangerous advice, encourageing behaviour which would likely lead to further animal cruelty, and then cry when they hear a few naughty words.

you guys are shameful

Actually, there was no advice given out, and no behavior encouraged.
Further, there was no crying.

The only shameful thing was your use of offensive misogynistic profanity to attack people (and this lovely site) without any real cause, despite (or because of) your skewed interpretation of the situation.

If you can't see that, you are really lost in the mire of your own anger, I would say.

stop crying, little man. i have no sympathy for people who give out the justifications you have been for animal abuse. hence my lack of restraint in my language. you can call my use of the c- word a "misogynistic attack" all you want, all it does is fail to apply any critical thought to what I (as well as alasdairm) were actually commenting on .

the advice that pot is more safe for animals than lsd, is quite apparent. i may have used course words to comment on your advice, yet i was still addressing the actual concern. they weren't adhoms, unlike all of your responses.

pull your head in, you're doing this site a disservice.

I know someone who gave his dog half a mdma tab, approx 40mg, the dog being about 120 lbs seemed to handle it fairly well but I don't condone such behavior

Threads about animals and drugs generally tend to evoke strong emotions, but everyone needs to stop slinging mud and address these issues calmly and without attacking each other or this thread will be locked.

slimvader, your assertion that one drug is more toxic to dogs than another in this thread risks being read as justification for administration of the latter. there is no basis, nor should there be, ethically speaking, for such an assertion. there's no telling what effects any compound in such drugs which could become active in the body of a dog, let alone its affects on its mind.

as a moderator on this site you have a responsibility to uphold. giving out such dangerous advice is in breach of this. it is up to the snr staff if they are willing to accept such careless and harmful content.

They gave a dog lsd WTF; I really can't wrap my mind around why they would do that.
I hate these irresponciple idiots that make the rest of us look bad.

I don't think so.
I did mention on multiple occasions that it is not appropriate to give pets either LSD or cannabis.
Anyone who didn't know that before (!), and trusts me due to my "lofty" position here, would have read it there.
Whether it is more fucked up to give a dog one than the other doesn't change the fact that it is fucked up to give a dog any recreational drug.

2 things:
-re-read this very thread. there's an alarming number of responses indicating a cavalier attitude to giving their pets drugs. any seeming encouragement should be avoided.
-the assertion that one drug is less harmful for a dog than another is not scientifically backed.

to labour on this pedantic point is not just harmful, but false.

Excellent summary.

Therefore, let us all take these two messages away from this thread:
1) To give your pet any recreational drug, for any reason, in any amount, is seriously fucked-up.
2) While we have discussed the possibilities here, nobody has come up with any scientific studies showing that giving your pet any drug is likely to be more or less harmful than any other drug. Therefore, see (1).

Because of the severity of the repeated attacks, and because we have come to the point of agreement, it is time to close this thread. If you believe that some constructive discussion may still be had, feel free to PM me to discuss re-opening it.
