Does your doctor know that you use drugs?

This subject interests me a lot, because at this point it seems like going to a doctor would be a last ditch effort to me. I don't trust that my records are actually confidential or that some grievous outcome would result from disclosing anything of the nature down the road somewhere. I have occasionally bad social anxiety that really keeps me down but I'm afraid to ask for what I know is the obvious solution: benzos. A dozen a month would be perfectly adequate. Plus I want to pursue my pilot's license in the near future and I know you want a spotless medical record for that. Kind of creates a weird incentive to make me want to avoid doctors at all costs, and just deal with whatever through other means, which can be quite limiting...

It's just kind of frustrating. Maybe your records are secure but I get this feeling that there's always some special consideration they can come up with to pass em around. I could be totally off base on this, but better safe than sorry :\.

Yeah you definitely need to keep it clean for your pilots license, a friend of mine is dealing with all of that right now.

Try some therapy for the anxiety, it really does help and there are no drugs involved, and it would not preclude obtaining your pilots license.

Just wanted to say as well that benzos are NOT a solution for anxiety, they are a short-term remedy and should not be prescribed regularly. You think only a dozen a month would work, but tolerance builds rapidly with benzos as does dependence. Don't look upon benzos as something feasible for long term. Counseling and an SSRI like citalopram or something like that are a much better approach for your success long-term.

Well none of the doctors know about my drug use in much detail, with the exception of weed and booze.

I have a mental health worker, psychiatrist and drug counsellor who I have spilled all of the beans to.

Yes. Everyone seems to know I use drugs. :\

To be fair, you did tattoo it on your arm ;P

Haven't told any doctors about any serious drug use, though I did at one point check that I used tobacco on a form at my dentist. I did it without thinking, had told my insurance I didn't, so I'm hoping they don't get word of that somehow. Worst case, I figure I'll just say it was a mistake at the dentist (don't smoke now anyway so hopefully won't be a problem)

I told my last doctor and they started treating me like a shit and would lie about what they were giving me and testing me 4, so i ticked up $200 and bailed on them lol. I joined a new doctor and said I hadn't been to the doctor since i was at school and he said it was all good and took me on as a patient but i would never again be honest with my doctor.

Yes, besides my scripts I sometimes use Marijuana, but he also knows of the hardships I've experienced from the ol Meth habit..
